Nah Louis a refering to the Flatiron. Same street as the Times Square Junction (Broadway) though. Broadway cuts diagonally across New York's grid-like street pattern and thus creates these opportunities for wedge-shaped buildings.

I like that building too, and I took this piccy of it yesterday. It has some active street frontages which is also a plus. Apparently the facade is a representation of Oriel Chmabers.

That building is alright, Blabs, but I was thinking of this one:

Cheers to Downtown for the pic, I can't find one of the whole building.

I might have the original... but I can't post the bleeders!
I like that HSBC building too.... would be nice to have on like the HSBC in HK.

Either the flatiron or the new one in Times Sq would be great on that site.... though a flat iron type I would not like to see a flat iron covered in plasma screens!

Funny how buildings look good when you really look at them properly, like the one Blabbs posted.
I think this one looks very cool in a 1970s "Space 1999" sort of way

the 051 building is the kind of thing that makes liverpool look like its in a late 80's time warp. except that the building has some mobile phone transmitters on top and some modern billboards.
even though the building itself is architectualy interesting, it interfaces quite badly with the street, especialy the car park with its many entrances and derelict parts. and its generaly in a state. its in such a prime location i wouldnt be supprised if a developer had their eyes on this.

its interesting but i wouldnt miss it

I agree Juxta. I remember being quite shocked when I very first saw this. But it does have a certain quality to it. I like the rounded arches at the bottom, and the 70s lines. Makes me think of Buck Rogers or something. Lol

here here, it would look so cool aswell, the signs could be on the core, hides a blank part of the building and adds colour and movement to the area

What an ugly fucker Norwich House is! Implode it with all of it's admirers inside I say. Cheap and nasty piss-take of Oriel Chambers.

Whilst it may not be missed if demolished it does have that futuristic `Space 1999` feel and could be revamped.

Many of the new talls look rather dated even now.

Regarding the `O51` site.....it could make a major Liverpool tall `50/60/70`

It wouldn`t detract from anything.

A few shiney signs wouldn`t hurt either.

They would in fact be `historic` as `Coca Cola` etc has previously been `flashing away on the O51.

Smile Golden Dollars .....

Dreamer,

It was a `very poor` attemp at being a `Times Square New York`.

"Coca Cola" was not the only one but when the `neons` failed they were not replaced.

So much for America?

The `Crown Pub` on Lime Street used to have a very savvy `EMBASSY` cigarettes red white and blue animated neon on the `Skelhorn Street` side - which was very visible when you came out of `Lime Street` - which with along with the small `arcade` (`Golden Dollars`) used to animate the area.

Obviously `Embassy` eventually came down (whilst I`m not personally a smoker - but my faimily are or were (oh there is a hint) I do reserve the right for people to choose.) but it would be interesting to see how many bland walls could be `illuminated` now.....

Even for profit.

It is after all `Heritage`.

But you could see it from Birkenhead... it would intrude on our beautiful bloody skyline!
Does nobody read these threads? We don't want these horrible skyscraper thingies (my first and probably last use of one of those emoticons, just had to make sure the irony was obvious!)

Irony accepted....lol

Shame though as the `footprint` of the 015 and Carpark would make for a sizeable development after the `Central Village` and also the `Lime Street Gateway` - It`s just in the right area to hang a lot of other city centre (sorry `Downtown`) growth upon.

051 club may be sold off

LIVERPOOL'S biggest nightclub could be sold to developers after owners dropped an appeal to reopen.

The famous 051 club was closed in November following a catalogue of violence and disorder.

And bosses today said it was unlikely to reopen after deciding not to appeal against the closure order.

Today, a spokesman for the nightspot confirmed there were no plans to reopen as a nightclub and they were looking at alternative uses for the premises.

He said: "We have taken a decision following recent changes in licensing laws to reduce our nightclub interest generally.

"We have taken on board Merseyside police's concerns over the city's nightlife.

"While we may not agree 100% with their opinion of our particular venue, we accept that there have been instances where trouble has flared around the area which may or may not have been related to incidents in the club."

The city centre nightspot was slammed for a string of violent episodes including an innocent reveller being crushed by a van that was deliberately driven at the club entrance.

And evidence was heard about a 16-year-old who had part of his ear bitten off inside the club.

The club has recently fallen foul of the law by hosting parties for under-18s without informing police.

The fortnightly Friday event, called Detention, led to disorder and saw hundreds of unsupervised teenagers spill out dangerously onto busy streets.

Sold to developers sounds promising, so how high would we expect here.

So the hoody wearing asbo's may have done some good at least, in getting the site closed and potentially developed for a skyscraper. I name this new skyscraper the "Asbo Tower"
