With most UK towers their prominence would likely not be replicated as well if they were relocated to other cities (say New York, Hong Kong etc) yet I feel with this tower it could really hold it's own if it were to be in any city. The fact that it is in London makes it all the more special, I cannot WAIT to see the steelwork of this start to rise!

Meh, the Pinnacle is just one of many skyscrapers going up in London right now. It will get going soon enough.

I think 122 Leadenhall is far finer than the Pinnacle, and unlike the latter, it's fully financed, and would be going up even without the recent pre-let to AON.

Funding secured and a big firm signed. I think it's safe to say Leadenhall will be rising, and architecturally it should be among the best skyscrapers in Europe.

It seems like the City is just getting a collection of buildings that resemble foodstuff. First the Gherkin and now this wedge of cheese! I wonder what next? Still I bet there are some awesome views from up there! Does any know whether there will be apartments in this one?

Not until the revolution comes and the city bankers are on the streets hanging by the lamp posts..and President Bodgejob takes up residence in his converted penthouse overlooking the little people..

Until that day comes, its purely a commercial building..

I heard the tender competition goes down from 4 to 2 contractors. Anyone know who/when?

The shortlist for the £290m main contract to build the Leadenhall Building in the City of London has been whittled down to two.

It is understood that the competition is now between Skanska and Laing O’Rourke, with Sir Robert McAlpine and Mace eliminated. The main contract is expected to be awarded in the next couple of months. Demolition and preliminary basement works have already been completed.

The 47-storey structure, dubbed the Cheesegrater because of its tapered profile, will provide 610,000 sq ft of office, retail and leisure space. At 224m high, it will be one of the tallest buildings in the Square Mile. The total development cost is expected to be around £340m.

Practical completion to shell and core is expected in the second quarter of 2014.

The project client is British Land in joint venture with Oxford Properties, the real estate arm of a Canadian pension fund.
