#247 l JP Morgan Chase Tower l DALLAS l 225m l 55fl
JP Morgan Chase Tower
Dallas, USA HEIGHT: 225m/738 feet FLOORS: 55 floors COMPLETION: 1987 ARCHITECT: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) This Post Modern skyscraper is another signature building on the Dallas Skyline. Many people call it the keyhole building because it has a rectangular hole in the center of the building near the top. The skyscraper has a red granite base with a pink granite middle and a glass vaulted top that includes a 7 story hole. At the center of each elevation is a 45 degree angled window, which helps to break up the facade in the granite mid section. The corners of the building are notched to provide additional corner offices. The mid section stops at varying heights on the north and south facades and terraces down to the starting point of the hole. The entire glass top of the building is also set back from the granite mid section on all four sides. The actual roof of the skyscraper is a vaulted top that runs entirely across the building, and even the vault is notched to provide additional interest. At night, the glass top is illuminated with spotlights set into the mid section of the building. On the 40th floor is a skylobby that offers good views of the Uptown area of the city. ![]() ![]()

That first pic I like a lot, just an old and small building with this big tower behind it; cool!
![]() The tower itself isn't too bad but I don't like it that much either so just a decent 7 for me.

I like it. In my opinion, they've used the 2 tone effect quite well and the whole thing looks like a very symbolic slab. Reminds me of the Gas Co. Tower in LA but better.

This tower reminds me a bit of the Sony Plaza in NY.
It's quite a nice design imo. 7.5/10

8.5 One of Dallas's best scrapers... very effective two tone.... gorgeous colors... and the top is superb.... nice rounded top with that gap... and the step design below the gap...

Why is this particular thread a sticky?
Anyway, I quite like this building but the brown colours remind me of eighties-style buildings, making it look a bit dated but it's still ok. 7/10 |

7.5/10 - the two tone effect provides variety without chaos; the sections of the tower flow together well. The facade also catches the light well, and the projecting mullions and indentations at the corners add interest.
The shape of the round roof, however, doesn't really fit in the rest of the building, which doesn't have any other curves in its structure. And I can;t help but thnk it looks like a huge, round waffle!

lol @ waffle.
I have always really wanted to like this one, but it always looked incomplete to me. Sort of like the parallel universe version of the AT&T Building (now Sony Tower) in New York. 7 |

Raffles, the interior shots were from the 44th floor skylobby gardens. It's a very pleasant and peaceful destination inside the tower. Open to the public still. From that point in the tower you have to decide whether to take the east or west set of elevators to go up the twin tower sections that are separated (creating that keyhole.)

I feel sorry for those living rite beside the tower...they wont be getting much sun..the hole near the root isnt going to benefit them much Im afraid. 6.5/10.
