What does "more Islamic" mean? "Islamic" is anything from Indonesia to suburban LA. This thing is just plain ugly.

I think it's shocking that this will overshaddow one of the holiest sites in the world. Although it's topped with a crescent, this just seems to be distracting people from the fact that this isn't a tower of modestry and religion, it's a tower of greed and power in a very insensitive location. Horrible

I agree that the tower is too tall and the clock looks naff, but it's beautifully proportioned. It's great that Muslims travelling to Mecca will be able to see this in the distance as they approach

It won't overshadow anything! From the place it is going to be built the shadows will always to the opposite direction of the Kaaba...

The clock, well, it's not my favorite, I think they should make someting modern with lights and digital display, but what bothers me more is the top of the building which is just ugly and doesn't fit the rest of the complex which looks good in my opinion. But the top is really ugly! I could design/draw something better in ten minutes!

When I see the renderings I'd love to buy some semtex on e-bay but then, I see it in its environment (thanks leetroy) and I think "hang on, this is not looking as bad as it should be". I quite like it, actually.
Sure, I wouldn't have made it right there, especially if I think builders had to destroy the Octoman fort standing there before.

However, will it be just a giant hotel?

When I say the top, I don't mean the moon on the very top! I mean the thing below. Doesn't fit the rest of the building, not at all!

Hhaha, yes i know, millions of energy is needed. I tried to approximate the amount of power needed to run that clock. By just looking at the skyscraperpage version of that clock the minute-pointer looked to be about 25 m. Lets say its a big box of metal about 25*1*1m (probably exaggrated) and the density of the metal is 10'000 kg / m3. The energy needed to lift this pointer 25 meters is: density*volume*height*gravitationalacceleration = 10'000kg/m3 * 25 m3 * 25m * 10 m/s2 = 62'000'000 J

The effect needed to do this would be appox. 62MJ / 1800s = 3000 W = 4hp. Btw what is a horsepower? but you still live in a good town i suppose!

that last pic looks awsome, the tower looks unbelivable against the mecca size.

If the hands on the clock are counter balanced, virtually no energy will be required to operate it. Consider the counter balance on an elevator car, and you will understand my point.
