@jh1

1- the current height is 339 m.

2- No just a rumor and nothing is officially.

Nice to see Mecca is developing after so many years of neglect by the govt. Needs more development in the near future of the Infrastructure to accomodate millions of pilgrimages.

That mosque in the last pic is cool!

BTW: Anybody know what is the official reason for the non-muslims to enter the city? Like, I don't know, they are unworthy or take up valuable space, or whatever...

if I am not mistaken it is from the holy Qur'an that non Muslims are not allowed in to the holy places (Makkah and Medina)

maybe it is from “ Let there not be two religions in Arabia.” that Muhammad said just before he died . . but that's just a guess..

In fact its not just Mecca but the whole Saudi,after decades of neglect and pillaging of oil revenures for their investments overseas the royal family has finally decided to do something and seeing other countries around the region speed away,even though the Saudi had oil discovered way before anyone else.

Because Mecca is NOT a tourist destination. It is a sacred santuary for a people of faith.

the hotel is not sacred, its the mosque which is a few meters away (4 million can pray in there at once), by the way the land which the hotel is being built on is the most expensive land on earth, check the pricing
