If he doesn't get a ban for that, then I'll be thoroughly appalled.

This building totally fits right in....almost like it's been there forever. Great design and the quality looks superb.

Yes you're right, he appealed to a bad stereotype.

What should really happen is that a Christian extremist should fly a plane into it, and then the western world should stand by not saying a thing. Not disassociate ourselves from the extremists, not condone their actions, just stay completely silent while in our head applauding the actions.

I apologize for saying that someone "should" fly a plane into this building. What I really meant was that I dont see why our twin towers even mattered to them. They need to focus on problems in their own country instead of trying to ruin another one. Religion should teach people to do everything in their power to help their own people and not do everthing in their power to destroy other people. This building is beautiful as were the twin towers and it hurts when something like this is taken away from you. What I meant to say is that I wonder how they would feel if they faced the same situation.

I don't think this was an innocent statement.

even if the style of all those buildings doesnt suit our westerner's tastes, i feel they have a Frank Herbert's "dune" feeling, specialy if you refer to the later books, when they get into "religious frenzy" ( no ill inspired comparison to islam meant here ) and build a capital devoted to the whorship of emperor Letto II : Mecca is started to get the grandiose look i imagined when reading those books..; if you flatly compare the religious centers of the world, this will be by far the most impressing...

Thanks Allah i can visit this place, because i am muslim

Saudi Arabia will be different in 10 years with 7 new economical cities, great projects in Jeddah (Mile Tower) and Ryiadh.Mecca will be a skyscraper town with millions of pilgrims.

Arabian Golf States already built incredible towns like in UAE / Bahrain / Qatar / Kuwait.

For a High-Tec,22th century star wars Middle East .The Middle East will have the most modern cities and highest skyscrapers of the world.

You know the song : arab money

I was in Makkah in late June/early July and saw this monster of a building.

As you know, the first 4-5 floors are for a shopping centre, its nothing spectacular.

I feel the building is far to close to Al Haram..it should be atleast a 5-10 minute walk away.

Here is a shot looking at the Great Mosque from outside at night by me..

And here is a pic looking up to the towers

It doesnt make any sense to build such a gigantic complex above the place where millions of Muslim worshippers gather for centuries. From an aesthetical point of view it literally "crushes" the Kaaba, the holy place of Islam. Moreover, despite its controversial architectural style such a building is in total contradiction with the spirit of Islam which advocates humility. I really don't understand how Saudi leaders have come to such a madness.

A couple of simple questions I hope can get answered...

Is this building off-limits to the general public for tourism..? And why?

Who approved of using "western" technology and standards to construct
such a place and why..?

Do you think this "palace" could be a target for extremists or terrorists..?

Am I guaranteed 72 virgins waiting to be my slaves for "eternity" for an
act of martyrdom..?

Wtf I just found out something. This building is being build by the Saudi Binladen Group. Which was founded by the father of.... Osama bin Laden.

How ironic looking at the discussions here about WTC and stuff.
