Maybe in 100 years this will become a World Heritage Site.

The Swiss Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts group has recently opened in Saudi Arabia the Mövenpick Hotel & Residence Hajar Tower Makkah, a part of the Abraj Al Bait complex and located directly on the Haram Court facing the King Abdul Aziz Gate. alright, Bin Laden did it, right? who says? W. Bush.

before throwing it on all Muslims (or even Al-Qaida) just see the other side of the story also.

may be it wasn't alQaida at all, may be it was US intelligence. who knows.

watch this video for some evidence

I saw that small building last year outside the mosque, I was shocked to see it standing there alone. I thought it's gonaa be destroyed. I don't know why it's still there.

The Abraj Al-Bait is a very impressive building(s).

Can anyone explain it's sole purpose of being built..? Is it the new "holiest" site to Islamists..? Is it a tourist center..? Are families(wives & children)
allowed to attend or visit this place..?

Before "abib" rewrites my posts... and every one else is addressed with a comment or opinion..!

Why was this building built and is so different to the local surroundings?

I have watched and read the posts pre-construction and there was a lot of
criticism to it's construction..

I'm not here to praise or appall the building... I'd just like to know why..?

I wish someone from Mecca itself would answer...

Ibib, There will be an observatory even higher than your picture shows--the little basket shaped part right under the crescent will be a viewing deck.
