Why was this building built and is so different to the local surroundings?

I have watched and read the posts pre-construction and there was a lot of
criticism to it's construction..

I'm not here to praise or appall the building... I'd just like to know why..?

I wish someone from Mecca itself would answer...
I think in general the future plane for Mecca is to have tall building as it is not a big city an is surrounded by mounting, and it really need more accommodation room, I think this is the first of many supper tall building. I have a friend who lives in Mecca and he has seen some of the proposal and most of them have tall or supper tall buildings.

I know what you are refering to, but I meant a scientific observatory, this is the one planned for abraj albait:

I wanted to show this before but it was low quality, the observatory and its telescope are directly above the research center and the museum.

Cul,

If I remember right, that diagram was the second to last update from Dream1981, and shortly afterwards, they had one last minor revision to make it 595m but I think the only part that changed was the floors below the clock. I'm not certain though and having a hard time finding the post in which we found out it was 595 not 577.

Here's the page where we learned about the height increase. Since the increase is only in the hotel floors, everything in those plans should be right if you just push them up 18 meters.

I hope that helps.

Burj Dubai's public observation deck is not particularly high; it is near the same level as a number of other decks around the world. But the one on this one will easily beat them all.

For now, yes it is, as you said.

But when we see the whole plan, that is to rebuilt practically the whole city with the new design, then this design and for the rest of designs are match and fit each other.

We can see the whole plan for the whole city in previous pages in this thread.

ok, ive redrawn diagram more accurate now after viewing plans and recent photos
thanks everyone.
#curent height is about 370m.
#the large bldg the towers all rise from consists of 12 floors which are high .
#the hotel tower has 33 floors up to central plantroom. then another 25floors to 2nd plant or large level. atm its about 74 floors high with 4 more in core. so nearly 80th or roof.
#there are 5 large floors inside clock box.
#so in total theres 85 floors.
#above this is the lunar centre which as a few floors and then way up top the 90m/300ft spire is the observation pod at impressive 560m!
whats everyone think?
let me know if outstanding errors

この建物を見ると高さより重厚性が大事なのがわかる。
建設中の建物でこの建物が一番凄い。
