Sorry to ask a random question as I finally caught up on the updates here in some time... Those photos a couple pages back are insane but why are all the cars just heaped like junk? Was that from flooding or did people abandon them? Seems odd to see that.

Even another 4 more buildings with the same size and capacity, it is still far more than enough to accommodate 2 millions pilgrims.

The second concern is: most of the pilgrims are poor, coming from the poor Muslim countries such as northern Africa, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. They cannot afford to stay in this hotel.

Cheers!

the ones in the gcc countries can afford it and also people will keep increasing if there is more space. the mosque and the hotels must expand for the sake of the prilgrims. more supply will increase demand and reduce the price.

The green glass of the tower actually sucks, having a deeper look at it.

It matches the mosque, you need to look deeper!

i understand why VRS blames it on Global Warming.
Global Warming doesn't only mean high temperatures, it also means unpredictable patterns in weather.

having said that, one should realize that Saudi Arabia is one of the driest places on Earth. it only rains once or twice a year. sometimes even less.
for a country like this, flooding in that scale is certainly something worth turning attention of people.

Do that many of you really think it's ugly? I find it to be one of the most beautiful supertalls ever built. I'm not sure about the location, right next to the mosque, but I'd really like to have this building in my city.

may be the prejudices

or may be their taste is different.

as for me, i don't think its the most beautiful.
but i don't think it "is the most ugliest in the world" either.

There has been quite a few major flood events around the world this year.

It was also quite a year for Major Typhoons in the Pacific Ocean. We also got to see another rare Southern Hemisphere Storm (one that spins clockwise instead of counterclockwise), Cyclone Anja. Lucky for the US and Central America that this year was unusually quiet in the Atlantic. However, the US has seen some serious flooding events as well caused by heavy rainstorms.

So no, we're not blaming it for just one flood. We're blaming it for all of them.
