which is exactly what is wrong with the Mecca skyline. Mecca wants its focal building to be a hotel?

Very interesting. Looks like a Muslim version of something Pyongyang would've half built.

a OB-Deck on 550m? wow, that would be nice . but probably it would be as small as the one on the Ulmer Münster ( Tallest Church in the World with a Deck on 143m ) in Germany

the view deck looks small, but it measures 10m across or 30ft.(about as wide as a tennis court).
@ 550m, thats 100m higher then burj dubais deck and 80m higher then current highest SWFC.
is anymore talls uc going to have a higher deck? shangahi tower?

With all the red lights around, the landscape looks like something Sauron would've been proud of

Its fantastic but I disagree with the location. Why build it right next to the big famous mosque? That would be like the vatican putting a supertall up next to the Basillica.

Still, its an insane tower. If somebody told you 20 years ago the worlds second tallest [according to that picture a page back?] tower would be in Mecca, would you believe it? I'm curious to find out how this tower came to be. Seems odd that the leaders of islam or mecca, whoever they be, would want such a thing in a holy city, it seems to be the opposite of what comes to mind when you think of a holy city [tall skyscrapers, that is]. Nevertheless, I love this tower.

I totally agree with your statement... I mean why would they build a building like this in Mecca??? (Holy City) A more suitable city in Saudi Arabia for this building would be the nearby city of Jeddah.... It is right on the coastline on western Saudi Arabia and would be a suitable building to hold such a building in my opinion....

That building is for the mosque; the income generated by the building is for the mosque "endowment". Why would they build it away in Jeddah!!
