AL HARAM LIBRARY

The design concept integrates basic library planning requirements &is intended to be a land mark characterized with traditional islamic architectural elements and vocabulary (Arches, Domes, Mashrabiya etc.)

First smart city in the world? What do you mean exact?

2020? It seems they wanna see their megalomaniac plans finished before the oil runs out to preserve this theocratic dictatorship.

Amazing projects anyway.

Makkah to be turned into smart city
The transformation of Makkah into a world-class intelligent city will help address the needs of pilgrims from around the world, said Mohammed Maqazi, head of the conference’s scientific committee.
http://archive.arabnews.com/?page=1&...=19&m=9&y=2008

We want to make Makkah a model city, says Al-Bar
The conference will focus on best practices in intelligent cities, intelligent habitats, buildings, homes, and other residential, commercial and public facilities. It will address the specific needs and applications desired for Makkah to become a smart city.
http://gisturk.wordpress.com/2009/01...y-says-al-bar/

Makkah to be turned into smart city
the conference will also address the need
to improve city services to residents and guests, boost productivity, enhance
global communications, and provide state-of-the-art emergency response and
disaster mitigation applications.
http://www.mail-archive.com/islamcit.../msg17914.html

i'v seen a better article but i can't seem to find it, the ones in arabic has more information

http://www.alriyadh.com/2007/10/01/article283717.html

Broad Band

Fiber Optic

http://www.nayefbinmamdooh.com/news/2176.html

I wish the best of luck to the Saudis and their development of Mecca. Such a historically and spiritually significant place deserves the highest quality of life.

Wow I clicked on this thread to see updates on an interesting tower and all I get is a collection of projects where a cartel (royal saud family) is basically turning the one resource they have besides oil (religion) into a money maker. Mouhamad would be proud. Now where are the pictures?
