سيكون للمسلمين في كل أنحاء العالم ساعة خاصة بهم تعلو برجا من الاكبر في العالم بجوار المسجد الحرام تهدف إلى جعل توقيت مكة مرجعا عالميا بدلاً من غرينيتش.

وقال محمد الاركوبي نائب الرئيس والمدير العام لفندق "برج ساعة مكة الملكي" المطل على الحرم أن "الجزء الأول من الفندق سيفتتح في نهاية يونيو المقبل". وتابع أن "دوران الساعة سينطلق في نهاية يوليو المقبل قبل شهر رمضان المقبل" الذي يبدأ بحدود العاشر من اغسطس.


والساعة هي الرمز الأساسي لمجمع ضخم من سبعة أبراج تطوره مجموعة بن لادن وتديره فندقيا مجموعة فيرمونت التي ستشغل فيه ثلاثة فنادق هي فيرمونت ورافلز وسويس هوتيل، على أن يبلغ إجمالي عدد الغرف والشقق الفندقية في الأبراج حوالي ثلاثة آلاف غرفة وشقة. وتبلغ كلفة المشروع ثلاثة مليارات دولار بحسب الاركوبي. وقال في مؤتمر صحافي في دبي "وضع توقيت مكة في مواجهة توقيت غرينيتش، هذا هو الهدف" .

وبحسب الاركوبي يبلغ طول الهيكل الاسمنتي من البرج الرئيسي 662 مترا وطول الهيكل الحديدي الذي يعلوه 155 مترا، وبالتالي هو أعلى برج أسمنتي في العالم وثاني أطول برج على الإطلاق إذا ما احتسب الهيكلان معا، أي 817 مترا مقابل 828 مترا لبرج خليفة في دبي، وهو الأعلى في العالم.

وسيحوي برج ساعة مكة متحفا إسلاميا ومرصدا فلكيا يستخدم لأغراض علمية ودينية. وسيتم بث فيلم وثائقي فور تركيب الساعة الألمانية الصنع على راس البرج. وقد وصف الاركوبي تركيب الساعة بأنه "عملية ضخمة جدا".

ويبلغ طول الساعة 45 مترا وعرضا 43 مترا، وهي بحسب الاركوبي الاكبر في العالم إذ أنها اكبر بستة إضعاف من ساعة بيغ بن في لندن. وسيتم ربط ساعة مكة بأكبر مراكز التوقيت في العالم بما في ذلك لندن وباريس ونيويورك وطوكيو.

EDIT: work of the concrete part has been completed already 1 month ago and it is not 622M as written above. Check the section plan which has been posted here earlier please.

Look on the last photographs, they began the clock construction at 400m and not 662m high !!! So it's too late now !

Concrete floor is ended so I don't believe it will be more than 595m high !
