Even the arabian wiki says it is 1.7M people. Otherwise, Mekka would look way to small for 5M. The building grows ever more hideous, btw.

I'm talking about the building and it surrounding. Not how many people live there. Skyline people skyline and it doesn't have 5 million inhabitants

anyways yes indeed like Qatar said, this is a sign of judgment day, Tall buildings, especially around the holy areas, there is a hadith about it.
The judgment day is near.Muhammed (s.a.s) also said in one hadith, that in the end of the world people will built very high buildings.

I really love this building; massiv, majestic, everything that a city of this historic importance need.
But i must say that i prefered the former design

It reminds me of a modern version of one of the mightiest architectural structures in the world, the University of Moscow.

now it looks more like a mix between Triumph Palace in Moscow and the Big Ben:

+

=

but still very impressiv ;-)

THE CLOCK INSTALL HAS STARTED

PS ... By the way "Mecca" is not American,
it is the English spelling of the city of Makkah.

you guys should open a new thread for Minas Morgul. this is Abraj al Bait thread. so talk about it's clock, not about a clock that you guys think should have been in Minas Morgul.
seriously, something wrong with these people :s

The proportions of this building are such that you need to see it against other skyscrapers to understand how massive it is. Even one of those smaller towers would dominate the skyline of most cities.

Can't wait to see this one when it's finished.
