I laugh at people who say they are demolishing old. In Makkah, old buildings are WEAK buildings, most of the buildings that have historical and islamic background have been turned into Masajid. Otherwise they are conserved. The old buildings they are demolishing HAVE no background whatsoever. And ONLY ONE BUILDING WAS DESTROYED FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ABRAJ-AL-BAIT, and that was the Ajiyad fortress. According to saudi officials, they have saved every single brick of the fortress, and they have requested the Turkish officials (Who are not happy with the fortress demolished, because obviously they are the ones who built it) to demand any other place to rebuild it in its original shape.

lol. Are they going to make the Turks come and get the bricks? That would be pretty hilarious.

1) the saudis didn't say that they "saved every brick" the fortress was a sand castle "made of sand"

2) the only thing in makkah ppl care about is the kaabaa, there is no "historical building" around the mosque this area gets replaces every 30 years for thousands of years, the buildings demolished were only built in the 80's and they look like the slums u usually see in india, some muslims (out of saudi) complain but they don't understand that saudi is a rich country than can build for them a better city subtle for the center of the muslim world

in other words, in makkah there is nothing old, even the kaabaa was demolished a few times, muslims don't worship buildings not even the kaabaa.

So this fortress was destroid for Abraj Al-Bait? What a shame. It was a nice looking historic fort. (though it looked like it might needed a restoration)

yes , i do feel gutted by what happens to some of the historical buildings in Mecca .
but just look at the geography of the city and think of the numbers of people it has to accommodate and you will know that keeping these buildings is a luxury Mekka can not afford ,
the safety of thousands of thousands of pilgrims is more important than keeping these building ,,

in a place like Makkah, the last thing they need is some two-three hundred years old fortress occupying an important space that could accommodate thousands of pilgrims. a fortress has no importance in Makkah. its a pilgrim city. it needs housing for the pilgrims.

even Abraj al Bait will become historic in the future, but it would also be destroyed when the need for expansion of the mosque gets more important. so, live with that.

Well obviously the turks thought it was historical.
and this what ther saudis really said:
" The king (fahad) instructed that the castle should be preserved in full by rebuilding"

in case you haven't noticed, Makkah is a pilgrimage city. people come to Makkah for pilgrimage. not to see an Ottoman fortress.
on the other hand, people go to Paris because of the buildings and the Eiffel tower. if you were to destroy that, Paris is no more.

in Makkah even if Kaaba is the only standing structure, still millions will come.

So basically we can only expect the Abraj Al Bait to stand for around 30 years?

no such thing as a "kaaba mosque"

u should read into its history because the structure around the kaaba was built, expanded and rebuilt again more than once
