Best building so far for Las Vegas. This casino looks massive.

Oh wait.

That green is stunning. I'm actually surprised this building got built. In Europe many cathedrals are still the tallest buildings of major cities because building something taller than the cathedral is seen as sacrilegious. It's fascinating how different religions seem to not believe that at all. In my view, the Saudis seem to think this compliments the Masjid al Haram. A 2000ft skyscraper behind St. Peter's Basilica and us Christians would flip out.

I try to get my head round this as well - but comparisons with St Peter's Basilica is probably not valid. The Islamic equivalent of that would probably be something like the Taj Mahal - a building revered for its beauty.

Muslims do not come to Mecca to admire the beauty of the city but to participate in the Hajj, an age old ritual that all Muslims are required to undertake, if possible, at least once in their lives.

I don't think that the Kaaba is in any way important other than being a centre for that ritual. By visiting and praying to the Kaaba, Muslims are forming a connection with every other Muslim on the planet and also with their forefathers and future generations. Looking at it from that viewpoint, it doesn't matter in the slightest what buildings surround the Kaaba except that they function to support the activity of Hajj, which obviously a hotel will.

Yes, I appreciate the distinction. Muslims at the Kaaba would be praying to Allah, Muslims distant from the Kaaba would also be praying to Allah but in the direction of the Kaaba.

As long as there isn't a tradition of playing football on boddhi trees, you should be in with a chance.
