But like you say, I think this thing will get more appreciated in time, like for example the Eiffel tower, in the beginning hated by the most, but after some years the icon of France or maybe the whole of Europe. Something likewise will happen with the Abraj aswell I predict.
The Eiffel Tower was disliked because it was deemed too ultra modern at it's time. A steel monstrosity in the midst of beautiful Paris. But even though it was disliked, it had style, perfect proportions and it was something completely new, a true pioneer achievement. No wonder, it became an icon.

That thing here is neither ultra modern, nor has it style, nor perfect proportions. And it's insulting to compare it with a marvel, such as the Eiffel Tower. This skyscraper is just a tacky Big Ben knockoff, blown completely out of proportion. The only thing special is, that it's huuuuge! And there still are higher buildings around the world...

the building doesn't try to be special, it's just a reasonable height for the city, Paris is growing so skyscrapers make sense in the city. it doesnt try to be a new icon at all, still it makes sense to be tall

That's an absurd statement. If it didn't try to be an icon it wouldn't have the clock and spire. It is obvious that the height is not merely functional, it is there to be seen.

This tower is amazing! Glass and steel skyscrapers are all to common these days, so this building is a nice change. The views from it most be amazing, I wonder how it got planning permission since it is so close to this sacred site?

I'm so much used to seeing the cranes now. But it looks great without'em. Nice edit. I guess when the clock tower is complete, they'll send these cranes to the masjid-al-haraam expansion.

These megabuildings seem so futuristic at first sight but then remind you of the times you are living in. My iphone is smarter than a 1990 Cray supercomputer. Sheesh!
