It's green because that is the color of the Saudi flag.

No. its because they tested every colour, and found that green was the easiest to see from a far distance

They didn't need to test that. Our eyes are much more sensitive to green than any other color.

We are best at discerning between different tints of green. This is useful for seeing differences in plants. However low light sensitivity differs little from other colors. That's handled by rods, not cones.

i remember when i sat with friends in the fourth floor class room looked out the window and we read the clock from a church about 2km away and that was already hard to do considering the size of the clock, so it gives me an idea of the size

i did go to makkah, it looks much better in person, its readable and everything, the night photos u see here doesn't show how clear the clock is, but i still wish there was no green, and the white parts are the only thing glowing

Great update; however, I thought they'd start assembling the last clock face after the crescent!

Really? I thought that was just because green is the traditional color of Islam.

In many ways, Abraj Al-Bait looks mediaeval, reactionary like a cross between Disneyland, Las Vegas and the worst of NYC's Art Deco kitschy excesses.
So pharaonic, so ostentatious and pompously overhelming.
From what I can see Abraj does not personally appeal to me. But then nothing can replace the real view from the ground, in other words one needs to go there and see this huge building 'live' and not relly on photos and then just 'pontificate'. (And on the top of that I guess I am not a Muslim to have the right to a say)
