why do they say six times? i thought size means "area" in that case it is more than 37 times bigger. isn't it?

big ben clock: 7 x 7 = 49m²
Makkah clock: 43 x 43 = 1849m²

1849 / 49 = 37.73

anyone?

well I think..they said it's 6 times bigger because 7 x ''6'' = 42(near 43)

•The front and back clock measure about 43x43m while side clocks are about 43x39m

*here they are talking about side wall not just the square of the clock. And the front and the back are different size on the side.

well they are not talking about the surfaces. Just the side or the diameter of the clock...and they compare this measurement.

That's what I understand

As someone who originally viewed this design as guarish and ill-proportioned (much like those offering the comparisons with Vegas), I'm now actually going to recant a little. In fact, I think this building does a far better job of achieving it's mission and standing out as a piece of modern architecture than does the Burj Khalifa.

The more I investigated the surrounding architecture, materials and designs, the better I understood the nuances of what this development is aspiring for. I still think there could've been better harmony in the massing of the towers and especially in the elements adorning the clock and spire. However the disjointed array of towers helps the overall project fit in nicely with the setting, and frames the largest tower for viewers both near and far. The ornamental details, while not my preference, are true to context and seem elegantly carried throughout the structure. I particularly appreciated the tent-themed overhangs along some of the window ledges, and the subtle changes in tones of the masonry.

The decidedly religious overtones will unsettle some viewers, including yours truly early on, but that is a primary feature of the buildings role and an aspiration of the developer. So even though it may be a very modern contrast to classical religious architecture, that's perfectly fine since this is indeed a product of the 21st century. Here, it works due to context.

Granted, I say all this from afar and not fully aware of how well it functions to actual visitors, residents, employees, etc. However, I'm one spectator who feels this building does it's job very well. It's not exactly my preference, but I think it's a fine architectural achievement.

we've had that discussion on this thread before. With the installment of the fourth part of the crescent, the clock tower has reached its final height (unless the fifth part is somehow taller). Its TOPPED OUT but not complete yet.

And whats so funny

Beautiful building, and it's nice to see that it finally topped out. The scale and detail of the building is impressive, and it has turned out a lot better than I thought it would.
