Beautiful building, and it's nice to see that it finally topped out. The scale and detail of the building is impressive, and it has turned out a lot better than I thought it would.

In fact, I think this building does a far better job of achieving it's mission and standing out as a piece of modern architecture than does the Burj Khalifa.

The more I investigated the surrounding architecture, materials and designs, the better I understood the nuances of what this development is aspiring for. I still think there could've been better harmony in the massing of the towers and especially in the elements adorning the clock and spire. However the disjointed array of towers helps the overall project fit in nicely with the setting, and frames the largest tower for viewers both near and far. The ornamental details, while not my preference, are true to context and seem elegantly carried throughout the structure. I particularly appreciated the tent-themed overhangs along some of the window ledges, and the subtle changes in tones of the masonry.

The decidedly religious overtones will unsettle some viewers, including yours truly early on, but that is a primary feature of the buildings role and an aspiration of the developer. So even though it may be a very modern contrast to classical religious architecture, that's perfectly fine since this is indeed a product of the 21st century. Here, it works due to context.

Granted, I say all this from afar and not fully aware of how well it functions to actual visitors, residents, employees, etc. However, I'm one spectator who feels this building does it's job very well. It's not exactly my preference, but I think it's a fine architectural achievement.
A lovely and well-articulated post.

Even the grotesque can grow on people
People actually cried for Charles Laughton's hunchback by the end of the film.

Hi all.

Hi Gunner.
Bite your tongue !
you know what remark I refer to ....

So, this project is topped out - currently the third tallest freestanding structure on the planet.

A fantastic achievement.

Ray.

The spire and crescent has really helped the balance and overall form of this building. Well done! I can't wait to see it 100% complete. It will certainly be one of the most impressive buildings in the world.

Saudi Arabia gets its first 1,000+ footer skyscraper! And nearly a 2,000 footer at that. Awesome!
