TCA delivery tops Saudi Arabian tower

19 Dec 2012

TCA Lift has successfully completed the delivery of a Falcon Spider FS420 tracked platform to the top of the Makkah Clock Tower in Saudi Arabia.

The FS420 had to be hoisted 400 m above the city to be delivered to its new home. The platform, which offers a working height of 42 m, will now be used to perform maintenance and cleaning works at the Islamic Museum and Lunar Observation Centre, also housed in the 76-storey building.

Towering at a height of 600 m, the Makkah Clock Tower is the second tallest building in the world, after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Its 400 m clock is five times larger than that of the Houses of Parliament in London.

seeing this, one can easily understand why this building is so inappropriate

i mean the last thing you want near your prayers is somebody intruding you, and this building this modern engineering wonder is clearly separating the people from the spiritual world, this is one major distraction if you note my opinion..

some hajjis have even complained that this makes masjid haram look like its near las vagas

Please keep your opinions, like those fake hajjis, in your mind. This is not a religious forum.

Well, that sucks, you have the highest clock in the world but no one sees a thing because it's hidden in the clouds.

It is actually short sighted religious hypocrisy, it goes against Wahabi teaching of removing idols and other building people worship towards: as it will actually just do that!

Sooner or later (this English-cannibalistic-language like) Wahabism will take over from the mainstream madhab beliefs of their forefathers (PBUT) or try to stake claim to being the centre of religion much like the Romans did with Christianity. Britain socially engineering Saudi very much in the seedlike fashion it did with the Indian sub-continent -thus it is the rulers of Saud who are doing this. It’s the beginning of the end for Saudi America!

No. It's an architectural forum, and it looks like Las Vegas.

He's giving an opinion about the tower, not about Islam. In this forums it's free to give your opinion so no, he should nog keep it. Maybe you're not used to such freedom in Mecca?

Maybe it's irritating to you that religion is coming back in this topic over and over again, I can understand that, but that's caused by the tower location. Nothing to do about that.

Besides that I think this tower by far the ugliest supertall and will remain to be so for a long period (I hope).

I think if the top didn't look so off-balance, the proportions were a bit better, and it were placed somewhere else, this building would look a bit better, for me. But right now it's an ugly lump in the desert.
