While I have no love of the Saudi government, that is definitely a stupid article. The mosque has been getting built up and expanded and renovated for... I certainly don't know how many decades. A lot, though. Are there any actual muslims upset about the expansion of the mosque complex?

Not only has this tower the absolutely most hideous design I have ever seen, the fact that they have built such a monstrous building just beside the house of God is an act of crime in itself. It makes the house of god look soooooooo tiny! It is a disgrace. I am appalled and really surprised to see the extent of the stupidity of the SA leaders!!!

I respect that, but why for religious purposes? Every religion feels the need to put up huge towers to do what? Show their power. Same as the old catholic churches, this is money which could be spent elsewhere.

A very crowded city with a lot of new or old buildings and with a very big holly mosque inside it !!

So, this complex is a very good solution here to serve a lot of muslims ( especially during Hajj ) and not to destroy a lot of buildings .. and making it very near from the mosque is a very good idea as well

( Here the shiny and beautiful look might be even worse than this unpolished islamic look because Mecca is very hot in the summer and the towers are very near from the uncovered mosque. This is not for tourism or any thing else because no non-muslim is allowed to enter the city of Mecca )

I hope everything is clear now

Fair enough. It does suit mecca more than a glass tower would, I am just questioning if its all neccesary. Is that really true though about not being able to visit Mecca? As I christian I could visit the rest of the country but not mecca or what?

These facilities are being built for tourism. Religious tourism.
I suspect that the neutral in any debate on the destruction of historical sites would be left pondering on who to believe. The western biased for profit independant newspaper or the all powerfull non democratic Saudi government? This is a case of "I can't see the woods for the trees"

So just because I am non-muslim I will disturb the peace? Plus I am talking about the whole city, not just the place of worship

I haven't said that historical sites are being damaged. I am questioning who is more credible to believe. Please read back through this thread a little way.

Ok, a bit hypocritical for people who supported 9/11(some of them did).
