And I can't get over the irony of having a medical center near a religious site...

Why not? there is nothing in islam against it. In Islam we have to care about people. Abraj al bait can room about 65 000 persons. It's like a population for a city ... so a medical center is ''Bienvenu'' : )

I agree 100%

@Ultros:

FYI Islam had invented many many of the things the world use today. If it wasn't for Islam and the Muslims, we wouldn't have so many things that we can't live without today.

Did you know that the Ambulance was an invention of the Muslims 1400 years ago by the khalif.

You will be amazed to see what our predecessors have given us.

Why do you say that?

Many people who hated Islam aor had no idea about it simply fell in love with it when they saw the true picture.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_converts_to_Islam

Any fan of MTV Europe will know that the queen of MTV embraced Islam. Any fan of French music will know that a very famous Islam hating rapper embraced Islam. There ate thousands of people converting to Islam daily, alhumdulillah.

And the other thing is that MOST people say that Islam is an anti women's religion, lol. If that was the case then WHY are most converts WOMEN? Not just any poor everyday women, but highly influenced, powerful, rich women.

Allah guides whom who HE wills.

InshaAllah, everyone here too and many more.

I would like explain my statement but then it will most likely result in a religious debate, so I'd like to refrain from responding if it's all the same to you.

Funny discussion and i can guess why:

If it is the tallest building, maybe they expect the other kind of tourists can see the Kingdom Tower from Sudan, Egypt, even Qatar, UAE...

Because this they want to make it so high.

Could make sense no?

Funny discussion indeed.
With a height of 1007 m the tip of the Kingdomtower could be hypothetically visible from a distance of 114 km.
For example to spot it from the top of the Burj Khalifa (roughly 1700 km away), Kingdom Tower would have to be 200 km (!) high.
So as high as it may be... the earth still is pretty round
However one should be able to see Abraj al Bait or Kingdom Tower from top of each of these towers in Jeddah and Makkah (and vice versa).

I'm not here to troll, but that's simply not true. It was Arabs who contributed, and it was thanks to (a shifting) Islam that their ideas nearly got buried. Instead they flourished in other parts of the world, where scientific pursuits eventually won over religious doctrine. Compare Israel with its neighbors, compare the number of jewish and muslim Nobel laureates - it draws a sad picture of wasted potential.

Another advantage of this building is that you can see the what time it is (i mean the clock) from miles away. You don't even have to carry a watch with you in Mecca and it's surroundings.

For me it also resembles a bit with old communist skyscrapers. Many similarities with the Palace of Culture in Warsaw, or some others in Moscow....

I feel it would have looked more iconic if the main clock tower was on its own. The surrounding smaller towers throws off the proportions.
