I think there have been about five people who like the clock, and over twenty-five who hate it.

I like the clock, why not? Gives a more practical feel to the building. If I was inside the holy mosque and saw the building tower over I'd rather want to look up at something with some functionality rather than a self absorbed facade.

I didn't comment on the clock because I think it's the least problem here.

The podium looks fine but the towers are messy. The architect(s) shoulda carried the Islamic elements from the podium all the way up, and not trying to be 'creative' with too many elements.

Where do all the construction workers who build in Makkah come from. Indian hindus would naturally be excluded I would imagine.

It's sad to see how the holy place of Mecca has become a victim of developers who don't seem to care about the special character of this place. I don't like the whole project at all.

By the way: whether you like the clock or not, what's the use of hanging a clock at almost 600m? It's just silly.

Because it's a holy city and it's kinda important to know when to pray. This way you're not waiting until the muezzins get going.
