I think it is likely Iran will make the move to mostly using LPG as Persan's article suggests... It will run out eventually too but at least there is plenty of natural gas going in Iran... people can actually run their cars, it's a viable alternative fuel for Iran...

Oh don't those batteries in the Prius cause a massive amount of pollution in the manufacture process? More so than a normal car battery... I don't understand the auto industries push to be green with these stop gap projects such as the Prius when over 90% of a pollution a vehicle will ever produce is while it is being manufactured rather than actually being used everyday on the road for over a decade.. 'Green politics' as it's best -_-

the problem in iran is that there r not many CNG stations around, and the country is already suffering from Gas shortcuts, which becomes more apparent in winter!

Iran has the second largest known gas reserves in the world problem is the poor infrastructure. It became manditory for public taxis to run CNG (or is it LNG?) over five years ago according to air management schemes in Tehran. The petrol stations I have been to in Tehran have had a cng pump, I don't know about elsewhere... Since stations are government owned it won't be a problem for mass implementation such as with the modernisation of the pumps to cater to the rationing cards took about a month to be completed in major cities and routes...

To be honest as long as the fuel ration is carried over every month on my card im laughing since the next time I go to Iran I have something like 800 litres or more to burn off in my Patrol... ROAD TRIP woohooo!

LNG is liquid and CNG is compressed gas

Usually pay for an entire year outright, fully comprehensive is about £400 last time I did it, probably slightly more now. I'm not sure if you can just pay for a short period, was never given the option lol. I like how the insurance in Iran covers all drivers though, not just named ones on the insurance policy...

woooooooooooooow, u paid somin like 750,000T isn't that too much,

btw shugs i have a bad news for u , the second phase on petrol rationing states that all passenger cars made in iran under 2000CC and all foreign cars under 1300cc are entitled to rationing, otherwise u should buy "free" petrol currently priced at 400T/litre

i think patrol is somin like 4400 cc

Mine's a 2.5 4cyl 'Mega Motor' engine.... Basically they cut the 4ltr v6 from production in Iran because the emissions were too high and slung in the under powered junk mine has lol.

I made a mistake man.. I meant 400,000T not £400 lol, I do that a lot, still remember the 90's exchange rates maybe

Iran Khodro's Samand big in Russia

Iran Khodro's Samand big in Russia
PRESS TV | June 16, 2008

The national Iranian automobile Samand, manufactured by the giant automaker Iran Khodro, has gained a foothold in the Russian market. Iran Khodro, the Middle East's largest automaker, has sold 11,000 Samand vehicles in Russia over the past three years, said the visiting official representative of the company in Russia, Halim Bilalov.

Samand has grown popular among Russians due to the excellent after-sales services including a three-year warranty offered by Iran Khodro, he added. Iran Khodro exports the country's first national vehicle, Samand, to a number of countries, including Syria, Tajikistan and Turkey. The company has manufactured 2,800,000 vehicles in the past six years.

In the last 3 years, there have been 3.4 million cars sold in Russia. Last year it was 1.65 million. Based on the last 3 years, Samand had a market share of 0.3%!

The Russian car market is booming! If Iran really wants to be a player, it atleast should have a market share of 3%. But with cars that look like they where made in 1999 and still are more expensive than Asian (specially Chinese) cars. I don't think Samand is going to sell more than the politics around it. (Iran to Russia "Instead of giving us 15 million, please buy 2.000 cars, so we can create jobs in our country)

Iran Expanding Auto Engine Production

TEHRAN (FNA)- Mega Motors Company is one of the biggest manufacturers of auto engines and parts in the Middle East, managing director of Mega Motors Factory said.

Addressing a group of officials in Semnan province, Javad Najmeddin said that the unit, which produces auto parts mainly engine, axle and gearbox, is one of the biggest auto parts producers in the Middle East producing over 2,400 parts of cars including Citroen Xantia, Rio, Pride, Nissan and L90 per day, IRNA reported.

Najmeddin said that some 16,000 people work directly or indirectly for the factory. Currently, over 20 companies are working under the umbrella of the Mega Motors Factory.

Referring to the relocation of the factory to Semnan province, he stated that the plan would be carried out gradually.
