Why does LA have 2 basketball teams?

I just curious why LA have 2 basketball teams on the NBA while other cities only have one?

its because LA is a huge city that can support both teams (Lakers sell out virtually every game and the clippers average close to 95% capacity) Also, LA is a hotbed of basketball and the LA area has more NBA players than anywhere.

LA has two teams, NYC has two teams (nets are in New Jersey, but its really the market that counts).

The same reason why NY has 2 baseball teams and 2 hockey teams. We are the 2 biggest sports markets in the US and we can afford 2 teams in the same sport.

... two teams so if one fails to make the finals, you still have a team to root for (Clippers).

Would the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim California in the OC and Dodgers count as two LA Teams?????

For those of you don't know they used to be the San Diego Clippers. But the owner, Donald Sterling (a real estate developer from LA) decided to move the team to his hometown in the early 80's because of lack of support from the SD fans and a declining sports arena.

It's aight though. They haven't done sh*t since!

LA and NY are both nearly/about double the third largest city, hence doubling up on the teams in all four leagues (except for NHL, which NY metro has three, and NFL, where LA went from 2-0).

Yes because its the same TV market, plus the Dodgers draw many fans from Anaheim and visa versa.

Could it be that if LA lost 2 NFL teams we lose the 2 NBA teams and the 2 NBL teams? Hope that day never comes!

The Lakers beat the Clippers 100-89 I think today. I didn't care who won because I like both teams.

^ Isn't ironic how Lakers need to win and Clippers don't really have to worry as much.

The Lakers and Clippers spilt the series again this year, 2-2. I was hoping the Clippers would win the series since they haven't done that in a long time, but oh well. Getting to the playoffs was the first task for them this year. Next year they can focus on hopefully getting even better.

Imagine a season in which the Clippers and the Lakers are both very good teams. Not like this year when they are both decent, I'm talking both are in the top five of the league. The rivalry would be intense.

Better question: Why are the Clippers doing well?

The same reason why God allowed a team from Chicago win the World Series.

You need one team to make fun of, and one team to be proud of.
