If the new inner loop is built, will it have four tracks or two tracks? I'm not sure.

The reason I said "I am not sure." is because, on some of the maps, there is an orange/silver loop line paralleling the blue/yellow loop line, along with a new "express" line along Interstate 66 betwwen Rosslyn and East Falls Church.

^ Cool video! It's amazing that it took 7 & 1/2 minutes before it reaches the first station and what is funny is that the cars & buses on the highway were going faster than the train.

What is its top speed? It appears extremely slow for something entirely in its own right of way. For reference, the Green Line in Los Angeles runs in a freeway median the same and hits 75mph. This seems much much slower.

Well, if the old crap cars are being used for the new line, then that could be one thing...

According to Wikipedia, WMATA trains have a maximum possible speed of 75 mph, but current operating guidelines limit them to 59 mph.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Metro

I think the number of motorist who limit themselves to 59 mph on an open freeway in the USA is small. It would have been a much better demonstration of the utility of DC Metro if the video had been recorded when the freeway was bumper-to-bumper.

That metro certainly doesn't suffer from having too many stations. Does it actually run through any neighbourhoods or connect anything to anywhere? How can it be viable with so few stops? There didn't seem to be anything much within walking distance of what few stations there were.

BTW it's not one journey, there's an edit at 16.55 - watch the gantry on the motorway to the right.

Well the main purpose of this line is to serve Dulles Airport and Tyson's Corner which is a huge shopping/employment hub that local officials are trying to remake into a walkable mixed use urban neighborhood.

There are actually a few plans to put a few TOD's around the stations outside of those few areas as well.
