Yeah, great to see such enthusiasm for investment.. lets hope it soon leads to Manc having multi-let office towers dotting up about the place, a superbly-thriving CBD with its quirky low-rises and cheeky midrises that are just that lil bit intrusive on the Town hall..lol, n all the Beetham impersonators..

Cheers jrb, interesting reading, with a bit of a mixed message coming through.
Quote from Andrew Hawkins, director of Jones Lang LaSalle - "It's worth remarking that there's nothing unique about Manchester. The city is simply being dragged along by the market." Hmmm, I beg to differ. There's something very distinctive in the way the city is marketed, and it's hopefully emerging quite strongly as the natural alternative to London. But of course, we've always known this. |

They need to develop around CIS to give it and the likes of Arndale some company and have some nice financial hubs up there as well as everywhere else..Well, I think..
We cant have our dear old 'mid-rise' standin on its own, its not tall enough for isolation, lol

I think the comment about uniqueness is in relation to the amount of investment capital floating around the market nationally, rather than a specific comment about the characteristics of the city itself.
Nice to see agents talking about design quality. Of the speculative and prelet city centre new-build offices proposed and discussed at length on the CBD thread, Piccadilly Place, Spinningfields and elsewhere I can barely see a duff looking building among them. All have a look of quality and distinction about them IMO, my favourites being 3 Piccadilly Place, Chancery Place, Cobbetts House, Aurora Place and some of the stuff at Spinningfields. Obviously some of the fringe stuff could be better and Manchester really could have done with a more adventurous developer than Bruntwood purchasing the Tariff St sorting office (especially when there is seemingly so much quality refurbished space coming through). Other than this I see a great spectrum of quality office development, right accross the city. 3 PP however will be the big "transformational" building simply due to its prominence. Thankfully Austin Smith Lord would appear to have furnished us with a really decent building and, as much as it sticks in my throat (!) - thanks go to Longford and his Civic Society crew for their contribution. One of the few examples where the CS have proven their worth. |

It was me and my emminent friends on the Historic Buildings Panel who slated the original scheme and insisted a re think. We are usually ignored but for some bizzare reason it was seen fit to listen to our comments. The CS had little or nothing to do with it.
