Like Kolkata, Dalian has both tram & metro, so I’ve specialilty with Dalian.

Dalian constructing its metro system comperatively slower than other cities. Thankfully, recently after line 3, gradually line 7 & 8 has constructed, and opened for public. But why at first line 3? Why not line 1 & 2 first opened?

3, 7, and 8 are S-bahn like regional metro lines. However, Lines 1 and 2 are local metro lines serving the urban core of Dalian. Both Lines 1 and 2 will open in 2015.

My guess would be that "metro line 202" is a temporary designation as this line is not connected to the other metro lines in Dalian (line 3 and line 7). It only connects to tram # 202. After it is connected, I would imagine it will be called metro line 8.
The main confusion goes for that transport authority foolishly shares common name between tram system & metro system. Tram route 202 & Metro line 8 connect each other, and if anycone want to travel towards city centre coming from west, he/she should catch metro on line 8, and then change to tram at Hekou to come towards railway station, either to catch metro line 3 or 7, or catch the suburban train.

I suggest they must remove the name ‘202 extension’, simply name line 8.

There is no direct metro connection between line 3 / 7 and line 8, it is really peculiar, and I never saw such an unconnected metro system in any city around the world.

Really? It exists in your own country:
Bengalore - line 1 and 2 are not conected.

In China you have the same in Kunming lines 1 and 6 are far from each other:

Istanbul has the same, M1, M2 M4 not conected

You're quite right about Kunming though obviously 1 will connect to 2 very soon and 6 to 3 and 2 down the line.

So they won't open this 2014?

Aparently the line 8 project was named "202 extension", but apparently it has been line 8 only since it opened, much like METEOR/line 14 in Paris. But then, it has really entered service? Chinese wiki appears not to say so...

It happened in four other cities too. At one point, Tianjin had three separate "systems", but now they are joined.

Yup, Fangshan line and line 9, which fell one station short of connecting with the rest of the network. In Shenzhen it happened with line 3 (Then called Longgang line) and in Shanghai with line 9 (again, one station short).

Anyway, any city which had two separate lines eventually joined them up. Dalian will do so before 2020, maybe already this or next year. In the map on post #77 line 2 north end appears to be at line 3...

Line 1 and 2 will start test run by the end of 2014 and open at early 2015.

The current 3, 7, and 8 are S-bahn like lines like Saiho mentioned (3-car or 4-car trains). The first metro train in real sense was released yesterday only.

Ohoho, yes yes, you are right, I've already saw those systems in internet, You're right, Bengaluru, Kunimng & Ystanbul - has separate lines. Thanks my friend.

P.S. M1 is not actually a metro line, it is a light rail line, runs partly underground, just like T4, which is called a tram line, but it is actually a partly underground light rail line.

I’ve some questions (arose after viewing some websites). Please answer one by one –

1) Left side, right side or both sides, - which type of platforms are in most numbers in Dalian subway network?
2) Which is the highest station of Dalian metro?
3) Which is the busiest metro station?
4) Where is/are the depot(s) of the subway network?

M1 is a Light Metro line. Its fully grade separated it just uses LRT cars.

Thankfully, Dalian still maintains a tram system, although mostly destroyed, but two routes are remained, and greatly modified...

This is old stock

This is new stock

Both stocks are running on same route, note the modified overhead wire system to accommodae high speed tram running..

I like how Youhao Guangchang (Friendship square), Zhongshan Guangchang (Sun Yat-sen circle) and Gangwan Guangchang (Harbor circle) are consecutive stations. I really love the last one, it's almost a tongue twister! Anyway, these two lines should open in the next months: Line 2 in April and line 1 in June.

By the way, according to what I've read lately, lines 3 and 7 are actually line R3 and its branch, while line 8 or 202 extension is line R2. The Jinzhou-Pulandian line (which is also set to open later this year) is line R4.
