250km's in 96?! How could that be, if A1 alone is roughly 300km's?!

Still, it was definatly below 1000 km's in 96, and now we have over 2000 km's.
A great improvement indeed.

In 96 the A1 had a big gap between Aveiro and Santarém (that's why between Coimbra North and South it's the A thirty something becuse the built a litte island in the gap.

What are you talking about?!
The A-1 was completelly finished in 1991.
There's no small stretch of motorway or whatever in Coimbra named A-30 something.... it's A-1 all the way from Porto to Lisbon.

Besides, there were other sections of motorway opened in 96 besides the A1, that would make the total number of km's considerably bigger than 300 km's.

Italy has a really impressive motorways system...but it needs more and more km...especially in some areas...

I figured out the number of 75.000km of motorway in the USA is incorrect. There are 94.093 km of roads in the USA that deserves motorway classification.
There are a lot of US Highways that have partially a motorway-like stretch of road, and a large number of State Highways and even County Roads that have motorway standards.

In my area I know of 3-4 state highways that become 2x2 motorways for 5-10 kms and then go back to a 2-lane undivided road.

Yeah, short bypasses around mostly small cities. You see that very much along the Eastern seaboard and the Midwest.

But in like Wisconsin and Michigan, there are US highways having motorway standards for hundreds of miles.

And around large cities there are dozens of state highways with motorway standards, like around Dallas, New York, Los Angeles and many many more.

that list is complete bollocks.

Germany has the 3rd biggest highway network in the world.

From Wiki:

Quote:
Today, Germany's autobahn network has a total length of about 12,200 km (in 2005), which ranks as the third-longest in the world behind the Interstate Highway System of the United States and the National Trunk Highway System (NTHS) of the People's Republic of China.

In my opinion, the best highways in Brasil are:

01 - Imigrantes Highway

02 - Bandeirantes Highway

Well, Spain has actually 1300km more roads with motorways standards, than the German Autobahn system. But there are some Gelbe Autobahnen, but they are not comparable with Autovias. But if you count the Gelbe Autobahnen, it think they'll play it even.

Dont really belive that Spain has more highway km than Germany.
How should that have worked out?
Spains infrastructure is paid for by Germany, France and Britain through EU funds.

And federal Highways/streets are quite good:

I made a word document last year containing all motorways in Spain, source: viamichelin.com

http://rapidshare.com/files/21975210/Spain.zip.html

there is also a wikipedia page concerning Spanish motorways. They state there are 13.156km in December 2005, but there were a lot of openings since, so that number is actually a low estimate, since it is almost 1,5 years old.
