With Google Translate everything is possible. You welcomed the forumer that posted before you and asked him/her, if (s)he can speak English. I still remember that post (although I wasn't yet registered).

Well, the official statistics in different countries vary in this regard, although the aim of this thread is to only count limited-access motorways. Otherwise, the initially quoted statistic for Canada (17,000 km) would be valid, since many roads in Canada are dual carriageways. However, the recently-adjusted number (~6,000 km) is the true length of motorways.

I think the freeway in BC grew about 100km in the past 10 years, although the number from the Public Purpose website seems to be a bit low for BC for 1998 (freeway sections of TCH in Lower Mainland + Coquihalla + Okanagan Connector alone would give 455km)

Now, calculating the current length of freeway in BC, according to how Google Map defines it:
BC-1/3/5 (exit 0 to 374) - 374km
BC-1 (Van.I exit 8 to 14) - 10km
BC-3 (exit 177 to end of fwy) - 4km
BC-17 (exit 7 to 11) - 4km
BC-19 (exit 49 to 75) - 29km
BC-91 (entire length) - 22km
BC-91A (entire length) - 3km
BC-97C (freeway section) - 81km
BC-99 (border to exit 40B) - 41km
Knight St (freeway section) - 5km
TOTAL = 573km

But from my personal experience, these sections should count as freeways as well:
BC-1 (exit 386 to 399) - 16km
BC-17 (exit 31 to 33) - 3km
BC-19 (exit 7 to 16) - 9km
BC-19 (exit 87 to 127) - 40km
plus various short segments of BC-1, BC-97, and BC-99 (sea to sky highway) that are grade separated.. so I think BC should have around 650km of freeways.

Sometimes, wikipedia doesn’t seems to be very accurate, for example they say Australia has about 16000kms of Expressway, which seems to me as highly unlikely.

Any comments or corrections are very welcome.

Before i starting to figure this out, i thought, there were some 270.000 kilometers of motorway/expressways on our globe, and, it seems to be i was quite close to that.

According to this government site, the total length of national freeway in Taiwan is 959km.

There are also provincial highways #61 to #88 that are expressway standard, and most of them are controlled access. I'm trying to estimate the length of controlled access segment from here:
#61 - km22-48, 102-112, 122-130, 143-166, 177-182, 224-232, 234-270, 272-298 = 142km
#61A - 2km
#62 - 19km
#64 - km18-25 = 7km
#66 - km18-27 = 9km
#68 - km1-20 = 19km
#72 - km2-20 = 18km
#74 - 15km
#74A - km0-1 = 1km
#76 - km11-33 = 22km
#78 - km1-44 = 43km
#82 - km14-34 = 20km
#84 - km21-38 = 17km
#86 - km5-18 = 13km
#88 - 22km
So the total length of controlled access expressway is estimated to be 369km.. but I'm not so sure now...

Actually, Nigeria has quite some expressways, though said to be in bad shape. It has one of the largest expressway networks in Africa.

South Africa is in the lead when it comes to highways in Africa. Definitely on-par with first world countries. Morocco and Algeria are also investing heavily in road infrastructure.

You can't both be right. 0.0023% means that the 56 m of motorway on average must be 41 cm wide.......

We've got very narrow motorways over here, didn't you know that?

Seriously, I just divided the number of kms with the number of sq kms. Result: 0.0056 km of motorway per sq km

Don't you learn maths in Netherlands It seems like ChrisZwolle is off by a factor 100 (forgot that he was talking about % ?), and you, with your latest statement, is off by a factor 10 (0.0056 km is of course 5.6 m....)
