The Garden State Parkway is approximately 281.31km and runs at 5+5lanes. The 2 inner lanes are for ezpass users and the two outer lanes are regular. Heres a picture of my exit on the parkway.(Exit 137)

Hum... 2 inner + 2 outer = 4!

Anyway, I doubt that all the 281.31 km's are 5+5 lanes...

I was checking on google earth and only about 90 km of it have in fact more than 3 lanes in each direction.

Still, it's an impressive freeway, with some streatches with 5+5, and other with 3+3+3+3. Impressive, no doubt!

That pic only shows a bridge over the state route 28 so its more narrow then the road actually is. In top of that, the GSP is a car only highway, no trucks allowed.

Seriously?!?
I didn't even know that could happen! A freeway(I call ir a freeway, because although it's called parkway, it seems to have freeway standards) for cars only.

India

Indian road network of 33 lakh Km.is second largest in the world and consists of :
Length(In Km)
Expressways 200
National Highways 66,590
State Highways 1,31,899
Major District Roads 4,67,763
Rural and Other Roads 26,50,000
Total Length 33 Lakhs Kms(Approx) 3.3 million as of 2004

* About 65% of freight and 80% passenger traffic is carried by the roads.
* National Highways constitute only about 2% of the road network but carry about 40% of the total road traffic .
* Number of vehicles has been growing at an average pace of 10.16% per annum over the last five years.

Status of National Highways as on 31st December, 2006
Single Lane/Intermediate Lane 35%
Double Lane 55%
Four or more Lanes 10%

How many states does France have? India has 28 with 5 Union territories. Of course India has more roads / highways, it's a much bigger country and more densely populated than France, lol.

Here are the cities in just the southern tip. All interlinked with roads and Highways.

Road network around Mumbai (Bombay)

The I-5 between San Ysidro (San Diego) and Buena Park (Los Angeles) is 4+ lanes for 114 miles / 185 kilometers. (After Buena Park it's 3+ lanes each way)

obviously, some people are mistaken on the difference between expressway and highway.expressway mean at least two lanes and no traffic lights on it.in US,it's called interstate highway.then if we are talking about the expressway,I think one ranking in this thread is correct ,that is,US is #1 with more then 90k km,China is the #2 with around 40k km and canada is #3 with around 17k km.

As quite a few forumers maynot know, India launched a major highway development program in 2000. The goal was to build 14,000 kms of 4-6 lane highways by 2010 at the cost of $14 bn. By 2006, 6,000 kms have been constructed. These are highways with signals in cities; only about 600 kms of this length are expressways (without signals).

The original plan has been considerably expanded recently. Future plans involve building another 10,000 kms of 4 lane highways, extending 6,500 kms of 4 lane highways to 6 lanes, and building another 1,000 kms of expressways. The entire project will now be completed by 2015 and cost about $45 bn.

Aren't most of the superhighways in North Korea 10 lanes or more? They don't have medians and the geometry is terrible, but still ...
