Trams system in may cities have closed down.

Some of these have been replaced by metros.

But, there are newer tram systems appearing also.

Why?

Are trams still relevant? In What circumstances?

With the advent of ultra-capacitor buses (check Shanghai), will tram still be relevant?

Yes, they'll still be relevant because Trams still have larger capacity than buses and are still more attractive to potential passengers than buses while being cheaper.

ULTRA CAPACITOR buses mean that they work on ultra capacitors no the passanger quantity jajajajajaj

ULTRA CAPACITOR BUSES WILL REPLACE TROLEYBUSES FOREVER BUT TRAMS WON'T CAUSE BIG RAIL TRANSPORT WILL ALWAYS BE THE MAIN TRANSIT SYSTEM WHICH BUSES CAN'T AFFORD NOWHERE AND NEVER

I'm not sure if it's true, ultracapacitor buses need to be recharged every 2-3 stops, so it still require lot of wires, connected to each 2nd/3rd stop... So while ultracapacitors have really great potential, but they won't kill trolleys in a moment.
