^ Thanks. As much as I hate Wikipedia, I must admit the neighborhoods of Chicago feature is very informative and helpful.

most of loyola's main campus is actually north of devon, so it's in rogers park. but devon is the border of edgewater & RP.

The neighborhoods of Chicago lay within Chicago's seventy-seven community areas. These designations are not governmental, but are based on the names given by the Social Science Research Committee at the University of Chicago in the 1920's for purposes of a long-term population study.
Hmm. I didn't know that. Cool.

Here's a link to their webpage: http://www.kingstonmines.com/ If you wanted a jazz club, Jazz Showcase is where you are likely to find the best 'shows' in the city: http://www.jazzshowcase.com/

To those looking for an apartment, highrise or otherwise, check out the Apartment People. They have tons of listings, many of which are from individual condo owners looking to lease out the condo. They will sit down with you for about fifteen minutes and match your needs to a database. Then, a representative drives you around, sometimes all day.
I should qualify that they neglected to inform me of a significant fee imposed by my new apartment. Circumstances required that I pay it, too, so I was pretty angry. Still, I think this was an honest mistake. If you're a newcomer to Chicago, getting them to drive you around and show you lots of apartments is educational even if you end up renting from some other place. |

I read somewhere that Wheaton College has one of C.S. Lewis' Wardrobe that figures prominently in the Lion, the With and the Wardrobe. Do they still have it? Is it on display for the public or not? Thanks much.

Hi, Everyone:
I know it's a shot in the dark, but would anyone be familiar with 211 East Delaware (apartment building)? I have been scouring Craiglist & ChicagoReader (among other sites) faithfully, and am usually able to get reviews and/or floorplans via the Net. But even Googleing has been futile, as far as this specific apartment building. This particular building does have listings on C-Reader, and the starting rents seem so reasonable for that immediate area (under a grand - WOW!). I'm guessing it's vintage (old), and that's cool. But you know what they say ... if it seems too good to be true ... Any thoughts would be very much appreciated! I'm stumped on this one ;>) Thank you, again, for this great site and your priceless discussions!! |

Hi, UrbanSophist:
Sorry I wasn't more specific. It is the building itself which I am wondering about. Historic aspect ... what it looks like ... even any tidbits & casual observations from anyone who, perhaps, has merely passed it would be great. It's just a block or two southeast of the Drake, within a five block radius E/NE of Palmolive/Hancock/Water Tower Place. I was simply amazed to see anything in such close proximity to these (!) for under a grand a month. Thanks! |

The Chicago Reader has a couple of photos. Ratings. If you want detailed info, I'd suggest just calling them and asking.

lol. Everyone wants to find a good neighborhood with easy-on-the-wallet rent.
The typical portal neighborhoods for migraters are Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wicker Park, and of course downtown. But give us some more information. What do you like to do? What is "reasonable rent" to you?
