SpinFest is coming to Spinningfields



Leave your wellies at home and say "so long" to Winter at the first-ever SpinFest - Manchester's brand new series of Free Bank Holiday daytime live music festivals. It's the ideal way to welcome summer, right in the heart of the city centre!

The inaugural SpinFest event is an American Vintage inspired celebration sponsored by Kopparberg Cider and will take place on Sunday 6th and Monday 7th May hosted by the Oast House at The Courtyard in Spinningfields.

The Free daytime live music festival will be a perfect day out for all the family. Jam-packed with a variety of smooth sounds from the USA with musical performances from classic pop and soul to jazz and swing - Beach boys, Motown and the jivin' 50's, not to mention a host of activities to keep the kids smiling, at least until teatime!

The Oast House will be serving its usual delicious selection of beers, drinks and the usual menu from the al-Fresco BBQ, will be supplemented by a Hog Roast. Performances will be staged in the ample outdoor Courtyard in front of the venue. And with completely FREE entry as well, you've no reason not to come down to SpinFest for the bank holiday weekend and remember..no wellies required!

The American Vintage SpinFest takes place at The Courtyard, Spinningfields on Sunday May 6th from 12 noon until 8pm and Monday May 7th from 2pm to 8pm. FREE entry all day.

Free entry, family-friendly music festivals for the Bank Holidays

WE'VE just been given details of a series of free entry Bank Holiday music festivals taking place in the city centre this spring and summer.

SpinFest is three family-friendly festivals hosted by The Oast House in Spinningfields.

The first is an American Vintage-inspired celebration on Sunday 6 and Monday 7 May. This will be followed by a Best of British Jubilee celebration on 3 and 4 June, and a Beer and Blues festival on 26 and 27 August.

The American Vintage festival promises smooth sounds from the USA with live acts performing soul, jazz, swing, jive, and classic pop. There'll be kids activities to keep the little ones amused, and a range of al fresco foodie delights from The Oast House.

As well as their usual delicious BBQ menu, there'll be a hog roast plus a huge selection of beers and drinks from around the world, including cider from the festival sponsors Kopparberg.

It has the makings of a fantastic day out for the May Bank Holiday – live music, great food and drink, and a friendly atmosphere. See you there.

GLL Real Estate Partners plan £20m Spinningfields acquisition

German investors are planning a £20m-plus swoop for an office block in Manchester's Spinningfields.

Munich-based GLL Real Estate Partners is said to be in “advanced” talks with BP Pension Fund to buy 4 Hardman Square.

It will be the fund’s first purchase outside London, and a sign that European investors are back in the city after a short break.

The purchase price for the 58,000 sq ft block is understood to be £24m.

Tenants include accountants Grant Thornton and HSBC.

BP Pension Fund bought 4 Hardman Square in 2008, paying around £21m.

It is understood that GLL has competed against against a number of other European buyers in the race to snap up the property.

Major European funds went cool about Manchester property late last year as the eurozone financial crisis gathered strength.

“The Europeans in general, and the Germans in particular, decided that last winter was a good time to take their money back home,” said one senior figure in the city’s property investment world.

German investors have long been among the most active in Manchester. Middle Eastern and Scandinavian investors are also regular visitors to the city.

Late last year, German investor Deka bought the 103,000 sq ft Belvedere building, on the corner of Booth Street and Cooper Street, for £45m in a deal with Orchard Street Investment Management.

Investment specialists say they expected German investors to buy more in the UK, believing that British commercial property is a good hedge against potential financial problems in the eurozone.

CBRE is acting for GLL. Christopher Dee is acting for BP Pension Fund.

I understand the commercial rationale behind the scheme (permeability, upgraded office space, and new retail units), but the original is more architecturally elegant and integrated. The office looks a bit plonked on now. But hey, the whole of the new scheme is a good addition to Spinningfields in a tough climate.

The reception for Tower 12 is now open on Bridge St, with one huge concrete looking desk. Barton Willmore moved into their office yeasterday, they look to be on the first floor of Tower 12, with them offices clearing being fitted out and filled with staff today.

Restaurant signs in Spinningfields' Avenue North

Allied London has agreed a deal to bring the first restaurant to its Avenue North retail and leisure building in Spinningfields.

Neighbourhood, which will open later this year, is the brainchild of James Hitchen, the man who created Southern Eleven, also at Spinningfields. The 200-cover Neighbourhood will be a New York style all-day restaurant fashioned on the Meatpacking District. The interior has been designed by Cheshire-based Innex Design.



Hitchen said: "Following on the success of Southern Eleven at, I am thrilled to be opening on Avenue North. It's my second venture, it will be a totally new dining experience for Manchester and I am looking forward to opening the doors later this year."

Mike Ingall, chief executive, Allied London Properties, said: "I am very pleased James has chosen Avenue North as the location for Neighbourhood, it will be an excellent asset to Spinningfields."

Formerly known as Manchester House, Tower 12 comprises 75,000 sq ft. There is 40,000 sq ft of office space over ten floors above ten retail and leisure units on ground and first.

Avenue North was designed by Sheppard Robson.

No it means breakfast - dinner. Most only open at lunch time so I imagine they hope to pick up the coffee and pastry morning crowd.
