North American as a whole lags behind these type of projects. Im amazed by the cheer size and expensive of them. by the way putting " city " at the end is wierd. what about " town" ? LOL

yes why not, Dubai is not the only city which has to build lots of projects for its future, the oil won't be there forever

I agree But is.nt this project a little bit too much what a country like Kuwait .. i mean 700 000 people that s insane unless they want to clone Dubai and promote immigration .

the they would have to change their laws first and the mentality of the Kuwaitis is more conservative than the Emiratis specially Dubai ...

i m not sure that kuwait has or will have the same attraction ...

Apart from the oil do both dubai and kuwait have anything to export as their resources? I'm thinking not and therefore they need to create man-made attration of development for the future.

Dubai is an experiment. Find somewhere in the gulf on the sea with nothing there and build a city to attract foreign expertise and money.

If it works learn from their mistakes and duplicate around the gulf.

I have no doubt that the dubai concept was agreed by all gulf states very early on.

Recent sources are saying this will be done by 2023, I somehow don't feel that it will.
I like the idea, but I think the railway idea is ridiculous, we have airplanes now. And Central Asia, Iran, Baghdad!!??!?!? How are those places viable financial centers of trade? I think the railway will be very vulnerable to terrorist attacks, especially since it will be connecting to a nation that many Arabs despise. And how will it be maintained??

Please Kuwait, just stick to the silk city, and downsize your ambitions a bit. Be feasible and profitable, don't get carried away and waste your wealth. And most importantly, keep the projects in your own country. But I actually do like the design of the 1001m tower, much more than the cheesy(literally) Al Burj.

new one wont be that much modified anyway, apart from 350 metres of extended height.

Awesome project! Really very impressive. And if it looks like Burj Dubai or similar, who cares? How many buildings on the planet have "clones" elsewhere,...

Hi all.

Hey shouldn't this City of Silk thread be in a different section ?

I thought the 1001 m. centerpiece structure was called Muberac Tower or something like that.

It was called Mubarak tower. I don't know if it's still the name of the tower.

Isn't the full title Burj Mubarak Al-Kabir, or has that been dropped?

Railway is a better way for Gulf states especially high speed rail (no oil need for train) for a first step like Abou Dhabi-Dubai would be great and I think Connecting Kuwait City with high speed line with other cities like Manama, Doha or Dubai is much better like railway to Baghdad for now. By the way all transports are vulnerable.

Hiya.

Just found a new rendering of the planned tower. I was never fully bought by the earlier designs, but this new image reveals something far more promising. I'll post it below.

Enjoy.
