Like this one. The 200 fl. figure is absolutely false. Not possible. They'd have to stop construction to redesign the tower.

if you consider the chairman of the developing company a bad source... ok

but who says the foundation is not able to support a 950m structure

emaar is playing with data, the foundation could have been able to withstand let's say a 1000m structure from the very beginning

^me for one, plus every other forummer on this website, but more importantly, the CEOs and directors of the worlds biggest companies.

i love the way everyone seems to assume that the original plan was 700m and 160 floors, and everything else is a redesign. Chances are it was always designed to be whatever height they are currently building it to, and everything you have heard is to confuse you. Id be surprised if they actually changed the design during construction, what is more likely is that they designed it at 800m+, and threw the whole 700m, yet we can go higher in as a big old red herring

they never claimed that it would be 700 meters

It was always at least 800 meters

I consider the article to be missleading, but still on the website there was a render with the 189 Floor lift buton so who knows.

However let's wait and see.

BTW with this rate, the 200th floor would be 750 meters above ground, so a 100 meter spire above that, and you get the 850 meter tall building

Indeed, let's regard the construction of Burj Dubai as a movie. If i watch a movie then i don't want to know how the movie ends.

Somehow, Dubai kinda takes the fun away from having something cool built in your city.

Devlopers say what they need to sell units. That's their goal. I've worked with several, and I've read press releases that I knew for a fact were false. Maybe because they were mistaken. Maybe it was a lie. I don't know. I don't care. Fact is you can't take these press released at face value.

Of course all that ignores the simple fact the developer didn't say 200. It wasn't in quotes. That was conjecture by the reporter, which brings into question the possibility of a misquote, mistranslation or a fundemental misunderstanding..

The same way they lied about constructing the wtb in the first place? and now 2 years later it's already more than 40 floors tall....

That's a horribly flawed argument. We're talking about one poorly written misleading article. The WTB fact has been published by hundreds of sources, many of which are credible and not some no-name piece from the corner of the internet.

It seems Emaar, and the $10,000+ model they paid for seem to agree with me and MY model. With that type of investment, people tend to make sure everything is correct.

But wouldn't it be the same, since something else is taller anyway?

... A Chicagoan with sour grapes methinks....

I don't think anyone can really honestly say with 100% certainty that they know how tall this tower will be in the end. All I will say is that the oil sheikh who is behind Emaar was on the BBC in a series about Dubai the other day. He seemed like a real playboy and I wouldn't at all be suprised if he was the type to keep hush hush about the final height of the tower.

This building will put Dubai on the world tourist map... I've no doubt that he will want it to take all the superlatives. And some more for good measure
