Are some of these stadiums used for sports other than football? I counted 6 stadiums which are almost perfectly round in design. Probably the worst shape for a football ground. Certain spectators must be at least 50 metres from the pitch!
If Brazil does get the 2014 WC, rather than upgrade these stadiums I hope they rebuild them instead. |

I don't see at all how these stadia could be renovated to World Cup standards. I guess the only alternative is to build all new stadia. Kill your darlings.
(and complete the Arena do Baixada of course) |

Some of the Stadiums will be renovated, but the great majority will be built. Most of the Brazilian Stadiums were built in the 60´s and 70´s therefore they are a bit old today for World Cup games and will be even older for 2014. Brazil intends to spend a lot of money to make their stadiums as good as their players. There is a brand new stadium already being built in Rio de Janeiro, for the Rio´s Pan American Games 2007.

I just mentioned this new Stadium being built in Rio, the João Havelange Stadium for 45.000 spectators all seated and covered, just as an example of how they would invest in brand new Stadiums in Brazil, specially if the FIFA World Cup in 2014 really does happen in Brazil it would be an excellent excuse for heavy investments in this area. |

hehe, most of them are olympic style stadiums, but they are never used for anything but football. Well, the players can do the winning run holding the trophy in the olympic track ![]() Ah, another good thing about olympic stadiums is that there is a bigger space between the crowd and the pitch... so its harder for the crowd to hit the players with bottles... its also harder for rowdy fans to invade the pitch, since they have to run more before security personel or cops get them!

Brazilian Stadiums... Very very old, most of then built in 60's and 70's. Sorry that is in portuguese, i copied from Brazilian forum but here is a vocabulary:
Estádio: Stadium Inauguração: Inauguration (day/month/year) capacidade:Capacity Recorde de Público: Record of public Quote:

tired-looking stadiums that are miles from the pitch - you'd expect better from such a football-mad country.
give 2014 to the aussies. they may well be putting forward cricket grounds but at least they're modern cricket grounds! |

Let's not be hasty here! I am not ready to make that conclusion just yet. They've earned a fair chance to try to get the logistics of the World Cup in order. I do think, though, that they need to come to a decision quickly because they need more time to move forward on renovations, infrastructure, etc..
And I think the following cities should be host: Rio SP Brasilia Fortaleza Belo Horizonte Curitiba Manaus Salvador Goiania Porto Alegre Recife Belem They may take out 2 cities, like they did with South Africa. In that case, take out either Manaus/Belem, Goiania/Manaus, Recife/Goiania or Salvador/Manaus from that list.
