CORINTHIANS- Estádio do Pacaembu

Which is a sin, isnt it? Actually, nobody knows how to explain all of your questions. I personally cannot believe that we, as a 5 time FIFA World Champion country, don't have our stadiums as full as in the past and with some poor projects...while countries with not too much tradition have better stadiums, better projects and all. I wish it was different...If I could, I'd make a 200.000 seats Stadium for 2014...but, what to expect from the WC organizers? Unfortunately there are hundreds of people in this Country that doesn't have entrepreneurship spirit.

The president of Brazilian Football Confederation, Ricardo Teixeira is one of the worst entrepreneurs out there, extremely corrupt....but there are people who still think he's a god....so, what can you expect? Slowly we're going to lose the reign of football to other countries that invest more...and we wont win a WC again so early. In a near future, we will be a new Uruguay in the world of football, wait and see.

Ipioe

Thank you for posting all exact numbers.

Maracana and Morumbi are obviosly not such magnets as they have been before. What is the reason for such small numbers? Antiquated infrastructure? Worse quality of Brazil championship? Higher price of tickets? Or simply dropped interest for football?

Poor people don't have money to buy a ticket (even that for europe standards it's cheap). But rich people are afraid to go to a stadium because safety is poor and there's no confort at all, so they buy pay-per-view.

The quality of the games had also dropped too much... try to imagine: our top players play in top europe leagues. Our second class players play in second class europe leagues. Our third class player in third class europe leagues, japanese league, korean league, arabian leagues... our 4th class players play here in the top division... of course that there are some exceptions... but the good players that are playing here are mostly young that will soon go to Europe or players that didn't have success playing in Europe...

If we had the proper investment in our football leagues, Brazilian Championship had everything to become the "NFL" in soccer, and every final would be a "Superbowl", but at the moment this is just a crazy dream...because there is no investment, as a result people lose interest for the sport....football dropped imensely in popularity in the last 5 years, people really are not interested in it anymore...with all of our stars going to play in Europe, what can you expect? That's why a World Cup in Brasil was so expected, there is a hope that with the event the Country may acquire the culture of investment in the sport.

There is a joke used even by sports journalists here that says: When God created the World, He pointed his finger to Brazil and said:

- This place will receive the best football players in the entire planet

Then an angel asked God;

- But why so unfair distribution of good players?

God replied;

- In return they'll have the worst entrepreneurs...

I'd have to agree with this because Argentina is basically in the same position with the exportation of young talent however they invest in their league a little bit more and as a result they have newer stadiums and a competetive league. Slightly the same can be said for Mexico but to a lesser degree. I honestly believe the Brazilian league has the potential to be one of the best in the world they just need the money which unlike lets say African nation they do have.

I have 3 questions for my Brazilian friends.

1. When Brazil announces the decision which stadiums will host World cup?
2. Is it true that FIFA has allowed Brazil to host matches in 12 stadiums?
3. Is it true that 5 cities (Rio, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre) have already been chosen? Actually this choice seems to be logically as those cities have the largest stadiums in Brazil.

I was asking because FIFA has recommended 8-10 stadiums and Brazil had to ask for permission to host World cup in 12 stadiums.

Which of 2 stadiums in Porto Alegre is a candidate to host World cup? Beira Rio or Gremio Arena?

Not decided yet.
The date of decision about which stadiums will host will be in march 2009 I THINK. I read this a while ago but I'm not 100% sure about the date anymore.

1. Each city comitee will decide wich stadium they are going to use.
The host cities are announced in March 31st.
The works (construction or it reforms) must begin until day January 31st 2010
Stadiums must be ready for the inspection in December 31st 2012

2. Yes. That's what an important newspaper (O Globo) announced.

3. Yes. But nothing impedes the removal of the list if the city doesn't follow the schedule.
BTW those cities were chosen not because it's actual stadiums, but they have the best facilities(transport, hotels, etc). And most of the stadiums used in WC may have a good usage after the event

Is it going to be a strict 1 stadium per city event? The temptation is always surely there to let Rio have two venues(Maracana and João Havelange?) with the additional tourist money it would likey bring in.

Are both stadiums in Porto Alegre connected with World Cup projects or will be constructed even if one of them won't be a host?

Great part of people in Brazil don´t care about football. Italians, argentinians, etc, are more fanatics
