New tower at 6th Ave and 37th St:

On 13 June 2013, I walked by this corner and saw that all of the one -story buildings have been vacated. I expect a modest hotel or rental tower since the area is Class B-/C. Even though it's filled with nice old commercial buildings.

According to Therealdeal.com, this eyesore on West St was sold and is vacant. I hope that it gets demolished.

532 Washington St. is HUGE. One can only imagine the potential of that site, within the Hudson Square zoning parameters of course.

It is huge. If it is razed, nothing too tall would replace it though.

For whatever reason, the thread for 1 Madison was locked as a cancelled project, but, as set forth below, it (or something else tall) will rise there:

SL Green’s president Andrew Mathias addressed the company’s growing residential portfolio, and singled out 1 Madison Avenue, which the company acquired in 2005, as a potential conversion project in the company’s portfolio. The site has 450,000 square feet of undeveloped air rights, Mathias said, and a lease with Credit Suisse that expires in 2020.

“It’s very feasible, very desirable,” Mathias said

That's ok about the height here! lol. At this point I would be extremely happy for that thing to just disappear and have something decent replacing it.

Hopefully though... what ever will be replacing it, I just hope it will be amazing!

New Hotel Coming To 47th St.

Quote:
MIDTOWN EAST—A tipster alerted us to a new hotel planned for 145-147 East 47th Street. The current buildings on site are being demolished, and permits have been filed for a new 22-story building with 93 hotel rooms and a top-floor penthouse. The street level will be a restaurant/bar, and there will be a rooftop terrace and bike storage. The architect of record is C3D Architecture, the same firm that did Park Avenue's Glassy Intruder and 46th Street's Gotham Hotel, so we won't be surprised if this hotel is a sleek modern tower with a plaid-like window pattern.

The original design for Moinian's Atelier II was posted again on his website. I wonder if the "new design" was abandoned.

City Council Green Lights 32-Story BAM Cultural District Tower

Quote:
Monday, June 17, 2013, by Jessica Dailey

Despite recent concerns, the full City Council voted to approve the zoning changes for Two Trees' 32-story mixed use tower, putting the project solidly on the road to reality. Last week, council woman Letitia James threatened to vote against the development, known as BAM South, if certain demands weren't met, but she was able to reach an agreement with the developers. According to WNYC, James agreed to approve the project on grounds that the Pacific Street Carnegie Library building be preserved and arts organization 651 Arts be given space in the new building. The new library will still be located in BAM South, but the building will be saved from demolition.

Additionally, James' agreement calls for 30 percent of the units in three other projects to be set aside as affordable housing. She was not pleased that only 20 percent of the 300 units in BAM South will be affordable, but you win some, you lose some, right?

Third Northside Pier Tower Is Rising

Quote:
Check out the progress on the third and final tower at the Northside Piers site. Douglaston Development, in partnership with RD Management and L&M Development Partners, are building the 40-story, 510-unit rental building. Toll Brothers, the developers of One and Two Northside Piers, are not behind this one. All this construction action comes almost two years after Douglaston announced the project. (At the time, a Toll Brothers exec said the “Williamsburg market is strong, but for most of us developers, it’s not a place where we were making a lot of money.”) According to Douglaston’s website, the new tower will be called “1 North 4th Place.”
