Damn, that is a new building !? It's absolutely beautiful, NY should have a lot more constructions that involve stone and other materials on the facade.

21-Story Rental Tower Breaks Ground In Long Island City

Quote:
Long Island City welcomed the start of another new apartment tower today, as the World-Wide Group—best known around here for their planned tower at 250 East 57th Street—broke ground on its first residential development outside of Manhattan in a decade. Locate at 41-50 24th Street at the corner of Queens Plaza North, the building will have 421 units and cost $157 million. World-Wide Group became the long-stalled site's third owner in seven years after the developer purchased it in March 2012 for $28.85 million. Units will range from studios to three-bedrooms, and the 25,000-square-feet of amenities include a landscaped rooftop deck with an outdoor pool, private gardens, a fitness center, indoor parking, and bike storage. The ground floor will host 5,400-square-feet of retail, and the building entrance will be adjacent to Long Island City's bike path.

Once-Stalled Site Will Be Home to Harlem's Tallest Towers

Quote:
Developer Ian Bruce Eichner stepped into the void at 1800 Park Avenue a few months back, with fresh plans for a site abandoned years ago, after MLB withdrew its promise to base its cable network there. Eichner paid $65 million for the site (purchased from Vornado), and the Post has some details on the plans. (The rendering to the right is the project's former incarnation. Have new ones? We'll take 'em!)

When built according to Eichner's plans, 1800 Park will be 320 feet tall—the neighborhood's tallest building—and consist of two towers.

Top 21 Floors Of West Street Verizon Building Will Go Condo

Quote:
Here now, today's good news/bad news situation. Good news: another telephone company building is headed for (partial) conversion into residential space, which can only be a good thing after the success of Walker Tower. Potentially bad news: the developer doing the conversion is Magnum Real Estate Group, helmed by the one, the only Ben Shaoul. Crain's has a few details on the partial conversion of 140 West Street.

The building, which was severely damaged on 9/11, currently belongs to Verizon, which is keeping the first 10 floors.

The site consists just of the lighter colored building with the awnings -- not all of the low rises in the photo. A great Indian restaurant currently occupies the site.

You've mentioned the Wanda Group project a couple times, but where exactly is it and what's its deal? Does the site have a thread already? Thanks.

No one knows any details. When they announced their London project, they also said that they are planning a $1b+ development in an undisclosed location in NY and would announce it in Sept. For all we know, they're partnering with Extell on the Nordstrom
Tower.

Ahhh. Didn't Extell get financing from China? (And isn't Nordstrom Tower something like $1b) Could be a fit, although it would be much more exiting if it was a separate project altogether. Fingers crossed.

Yes it's quite possible. JamesDL said extell has not yet decided a name for 225. maybe because they may name it the Wanda Tower?? Hehe

I'm with Marshall, hopefully it will be another separate project so we can see another project move from proposed to construction. Maybe the Sherwood supertall in the Hudson Yards?? They are looking for hotel operator to partner with.

Sherwood sought a hotel partner for 360 10th, which they recently sold. Their supertall site is for an office tower.

Controversial Washington Heights Towers Delayed After Rival Developer Buys Land

Quote:
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A controversial plan to build a series of skyscrapers in Washington Heights is up in the air after a rival developer bought two of the buildings on the proposed future site, a city representative said Wednesday night.

Quadriad Realty's plan to get zoning changes to build up to three towers on both sides of Broadway near 192nd Street has been on hold for months, after HAP Investment Developers purchased two of the buildings on the proposed site: 4452 and 4454 Broadway, the city said.

Until Quadriad and HAP can come to an agreement, the development cannot proceed as planned.

"This is on hold right now, and it has been on hold since June," Department of City Planning spokesman Edwin Marshall told Community Board 12's Land Use Committee. "You can't rezone property you don't own."

Oh I didn't know that. I always just assumed that was the plan for this tower. Thanks.

Snøhetta unveils glass library for Far Rockaway

Quote:
Snøhetta, the architecture firm that transformed Times Square, has designed a library for a Sandy-devastated Queens neighborhood that includes a glass entrance and lots of sharp angles.

Far Rockaway will raze its old library, at 1637 Central Avenue, to make way for the new one. After the hurricane, the library served as a disaster relief center.

Snøhetta’s Eric Dykers presented the project to Queens Community Board 14. Features of the new library, which will be twice as big as the old one, include a triangular corner covered with glass for the entrance. The lobby will be an inverted pyramid that will collect “sunlight with the widest point at the top, narrowing towards the bottom, where the bulk of the program is located,” Dykers said.
