To make such a statement you have to be,at least Herbert Muschamp fellow!
As a reminder keep in mind Hotel Pennsylvania is not only a building:it's a McKim Mead and White!I mean, you have a handfull of architecture firms that are part of NY's dna;we already lost Pen station, the Singer and some other jewels:CA SUFFIT COMME CA!!Even if it's not a masterpiece would you take a Hopper off your living room's wall to hang a James Bowman?
Furthermore,i think highly of C Pelli but listen,i am just OVER that old design:two IFC,Goldman Sachs tower in JC,Transbay terminal tower and now NY????

McKim, Meade, and White Is not going anywhere and is QUITE literally in the City's DNA as both it's Municipal Building and main post office (soon to be it's new main train station) are both Land Marked buildings. Although, this maybe part of a bigger scheme by the governor's and mayor's offices to have Vornado move their offices as well. So that They can demolish both the garden and vornado offices and build a new penn.

Not only that, I don't consider this building to be architecturally significant enough to be saved, there are plenty of similar buildings in the city. Besides it's a total dump, might as well get something new there.

Regarding 15 Hudson Yards: Probably someone calculated that you can save $20 million by eliminating the corset... would have been very complicated steel and glass structure

They look like every residential tower from the 90s/early 2000s...
No doubt the horizontal spans of each floor will be painfully obvious.

New Look: 50 Hudson Yards

Quote:
Along with an apparent redesign of 15 Hudson Yards, new details are out for 50 Hudson Yards, where SOM San Francisco is now attached. The actual design continues to change, and is far from set in stone, but the latest images show refinements to what was previously modeled, perhaps indicating that the supertall’s overall form is coming closer to being finalized.

50 Hudson Yards will stand 1,068 feet tall, but will hold only 48 floors (!); ceiling heights will be unprecedented amongst office developments in New York City, and the wide-open floor-plates should also prove appealing, with the tower totaling 2.3 million square feet.

Besides interiors that will verge on incomparable, the building’s form is quite basic, with staggered setbacks defining a stacked set of rectangular boxes.

Looks good. I guarantee most people will end up liking that design, since it happened with 250w55th street two years ago.

people always wants to see things in the buildings, so, it is not logic change a great concept just because of that, because if it was a good reason, Agbar tower in Barcelona or Gherkin tower from London shouldn't had be built

Designs Unveiled for Controversial Brooklyn Bridge Park Sites

Quote:
In the midst of a heated debate (and an ongoing lawsuit) over whether there should even be more housing in Brooklyn Bridge Park at all comes news that 14 different designs for two development sites near Pier 6 are under consideration. The 14 sets of renderings for the affordable towers were submitted by some very big-name architects, from Bjarke Ingels Group to H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture to FXFOWLE and many more, following a request for proposals in May.

The first site is closer to the water, right next to One Brooklyn Bridge Park (which is pictured in most of the renderings), and can be up to 315 feet (about 31 stories) with 290 apartments. Meanwhile, the second site is set back from the water and will be shorter. Its maximum height is 155 feet (15 or so stories), with 140 residential units and ground-floor retail.

[...]

Vying for the commission are most of the major players in the NYC architecture world right now: Alloy Design + Bjarke Ingels Group; Asymptote Architecture; BKSK Architects + Aufgang Architects; Davis Brody Bond; Future Expansion + SBN Architects; FXFOWLE Architects; H3 Hardy Collaboration Architects; Marvel Architects; Morris Adjmi Architects; NV/da + O'Neill McVoy Architects; Pelli Clarke Pelli; S9 Architecture (Perkins Eastman), Selldorf Architects; and WASA Studio A.
