Metlife building is the most imposing building in all Midtown skyline , it's the most visible one from many angles ...

The only reason I could support the demolition of the MetLife Building would be for the construction of an unbelievably magnificent new train shed for Grand Central Terminal. That being said I love the MetLife building it's s just so cool!

I expect we'll see a lot of ideas about how to "hide" it as a result of the competition to re-clad that thing.

In an ideal world, I've often wondered how expensive it would be to essentially render the view of Park Ave. onto the building's facade - not even necessarily the entire building but a large enough chunk to essentially give the effect of a window down the ave.

No chance. This is one of Walter Gropius's master works. If they ever change anything on the facade, it would be the glass panes themselves.

I don't understand the hate on the Metlife Building,I quite like it since its got history and I would even count it as a landmark. If everything old gets demolished or renovated NYC would be unrecognizable.I was quite beat up when I found out that Pier 17 is demolished.

The Curbed commentariat has been (surprise, surprise) pretty unkind to this building, but I think it looks very nice, as does most of FXFowles' work.

Someone did make a pretty funny observation though, that the teaser site cuts Harlem off the map to make it look like this is actually on the UWS. There's going to be a certain unavoidable comedy/painful awkwardness to a bunch of white folks living large on Frederick Douglass Blvd.

NYC still top dog in total real estate investments, and some of the major projects like Hudson Yards are just getting started....

NYC leads global real estate investment to post-crisis record

http://therealdeal.com/blog/2015/10/...crisis-record/

Quote:
Global investment in real estate reached its highest level since 2007 in the first half of the year thanks to a flurry of deals in the Americas and New York City, according to a new report by CBRE. New York City was by far the biggest market, attracting $40.1 billion in investment over the first two quarters. That’s 10 percent of the global total of $407 billion – a staggering share for a city, accounting for 1.8 percent of the world’s economic output. London ($19.4 billion) and Los Angeles ($19.3 billion), the next biggest markets, each recorded less than half of New York’s investment volume (see chart above). Major Manhattan deals that closed in the first half of the year include the $2 billion sale of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel to Chinese insurer Anbang and the $2.2 billion sale of office building 3 Bryant Park to Ivanhoe Cambridge and Callahan Capital Partners. The $407 billion global total marks a 14 percent increase over the previous year. Real estate investment in the Americas grew by 31 percent, while investment in Europe, the Middle East Africa grew by a mere 5 percent. Asia saw an 18-percent decline amid a slowdown in the Chinese housing market. Among countries, the U.S. dominated with total investment of $222.4 billion, followed by Britain with $54.6 billion and Germany with $24.0 billion. “The influence of global capital is growing to the point that these investors are becoming the “market-maker” in setting the price in the most desired and liquid markets across the globe,” said Chris Ludeman, global president of capital markets at CBRE.

Royal rose:

"Regent, you clearly have little respect for architecture if you think New York is putting out low quality architecture today."

do you have respect for the freedom of speach ? i´m not sure. so, don´t argue with the word "respect". it is not a point to have respect, if anyone says what he think. "respect" is a word which stops, that people´s says what they think.
