All that money for JFK could go a lot further if invested in our subway system. Seems like a waste when the airport itself isn't that bad imo (but rather getting there is), not to mention they'll certainly go over budget. In the end this is just Cuomo trying to up his political stature to uninformed voters. Nice to see they might include a one-ride option though.

The all look extremely beautiful and high quality stuff, except the one on the far right, that's suitable to some not so mature cities/skylines, hmm... let's say Dubai!
Edit: 53W53 looks truly precious, I'm so glad it's finally rising.

Was this designed by Stern Architects? Because if it was, I gotta say I really like this, I can spot plenty of improvements, which is very good! The building looks like a citadel. I hope that they'll use real stone for the facade.

JFK One-seat ride

RPA report details five one-seat ride options to JFK Airport

Quote:
The Regional Plan Association decided to explore this point further, and in a report out today they’ve detailed five different approaches for a “one-seat ride” to JFK

According to the report, the five options are as follows:
  • AirTrain Connection: Connect the AirTrain to the LIRR mainline at Jamaica, creating a one-seat ride from Penn Station and Grand Central to JFK.
  • LIRR Airport Express: Extend the unused Rockaway Beach Branch LIRR line in Queens into the airport, and run service from Penn Station or Grand Central along the LIRR mainline to the branch line.
  • 2nd Ave Subway Extension to Airport: Extend the Second Avenue subway to Brooklyn and connect to the airport using the Atlantic and Rockaway Beach rights-of-way.
  • 3rd Avenue Express: Connect a new rail line along Third Avenue in Manhattan through the Atlantic and Rockaway Beach rights-of-way as part of a larger transformation of the region’s rail network.
  • Super Express: Construct a new rail right-of-way, most likely a tunnel, between Manhattan and the airport.

The first two options are the most reasonable. Any of the other three options are prohibitively expensive and/or kind of unnecessary.

@Architecture Lover: So you bash one (neo) Art Deco building but praise another one even though they are of similar quality? What is it that you like with one but find Dubai-esque with the other?

I favor option 2, the cleanest most sensible approach that requires no messy new "hybrid train". Once the disgusting selfish nimbys are pushed aside, the old rail line will be put to proper use and JFK will have a great one seat ride express via the LIRR. get it done Cuomo, subito!!
