Streamline Moderne is still as fresh as ever.

Midtown - Rockefeller Plaza Renovation - 1221 Sixth Ave

Rockefeller Plaza to get open, circular cutout in proposed makeover

Quote:
The Rockefeller Group will transform the indoor-outdoor plaza of 1221 Sixth Avenue, formerly the site of the McGraw-Hill tower, its biggest makeover since 1969. As the New York Post reported, the redesign calls for the current sunken plaza to be replaced with a sidewalk-level space. Designed by Italian architects Citterio-Viel & Partners, the plaza will also feature a large, circle-shaped cutout in its center, adding 35,000 square feet of retail space below-grade level.

The public-friendly plaza will have lots of seating, new staircases leading from the outdoor space and an open circular portal between the shopping levels....

...Construction will begin after an anchor tenant inks a lease for all or most of the retail space with the Rockefeller Group. Bill Edwards, senior vice president of the company, told the Post the project will be completed in 2019.

Hudson Yards District - 441 Ninth Ave

Rendering Revealed For 17-Story Addition To 441 Ninth Avenue, Hudson Yards

Quote:
YIMBY’s last report on 441 Ninth Avenue was back when The Cove Property Group and hedge fund Baupost Group purchased the site. The two companies have now released a rendering, and information about plans that triple the floor count. Rentable square footage will balloon to 700,000 square feet, and 17 stories will be added atop the existing eight-story building, which will be gutted and redesigned...

...According to The Real Deal, Cove has received a $479 million construction loan, which the Commercial Observer reports as coming from the private equity firm Apollo Global Management.

Work will start in January 2018, with the project ready for tenants by summer of 2019. Cove is expecting to start leasing for the building’s lower eight stories before the end of 2018.

Tokyo doesn't even look like the stereotypical neon alley you see in specific areas of Shibuya and Shinjuku. In fact, it's a smaller fraction of the entire city compared to Times Square and New York City. Also, both cities are doing away with chaotic billboards and jumbotrons in favor of more pleasing and flexible LED fixtures, to the displeasure of people who have a fetish for light pollution.

The form is nice, but quite a lot of the new buildings are cheap and nasty atrocities, like Toren and 120 Nassau Street. Even AVA Dobro has that awful blotchy strip of cladding, and City Point is ruined by those droopy windows.

I don't get the abundance of pre-fabricated looking buildings in Brooklyn. At the moment it almost looks like Rotterdam 2.0 and I hope some future fully designed buildings will balance it out.

***minor request: If possible, can the neighborhood/borough please be listed for projects that are posted here?

e.g.
Jardim at 527 West 27th Street
Chelsea; Manhattan

I suppose stuff in Manhattan is easy enough to locate by address alone, but some things in Queens/Brooklyn are less recognizable.

Just an idea.

50 West Street’s Pedestrian Improvements Nearing Completion

The entirety of the project should be complete by the end of 2018.

The western side of the future pedestrian bridge with form-work of the staircase nearing completion.

View of 50 West Street. The pedestrian bridge will eventually rise above the photograph and stretch across into the space between the residential tower and the parking garage to the south.
