Thank you AltinD for not only NOT answering my question, but taking an unnecessary stab at New York. Nice.

If you actually thought about it, perhaps you would see that not only did he not make a stab at New York, but he also answered your question. The fact is that Manhattan is mostly old skyscrapers built in a decades old boom, but it looks good because they've held up to the test of time. The same could be true of future Dubai. Your problem is that you already arrived at the conclusion that Dubai will look bad in a couple of decades, and so you had no way of interpreting Altin's response correctly. Your reply here proves that you weren't really looking for a real answer and instead just wanted someone to say "yeah you're right Dubai will look terrible when these buildings are old."

Well said! I was just about to respond nearly the same. WestTexan87, you referred to the 1960'-1980', and the places in those days one can compare to the actual Dubai boom are certainly New York of Chicago... so we can see what might happen: many towers will have to be renovated someday, a few will get a recladding, a few will be torn down... but the far most buildings are still in use and some are under monument protection, while new skyscrapers are being built. Manhattan is still one of the most favored places on earth - and I hope that Dubai can go for that, too.

It's a very pessimistic and depressing view to doubt things because they're aging later . If you see a beautiful girl, should you think "Shame - she'll be ugly in 50 years"? No - It's better to enjoy the present - and then find strategies to make the best for the future. The same with Almas Tower and all the others: it's great to see them becoming reality now!

True true...maybe I'm just skeptical still as to how a city like Dubai can support construction on this scale. Most cities become saturated with square footage after a decade of building. What will happen when the dust settles and Dubai has millions upon millions of square feet of office, retail and hotel space? Will it all really be used? No offense meant.

Of course it all remains to be seen. But Dubai is an extremely fast growing city, and there seems to be a lot of demand even still. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of a slump, but I don't think a big crash is inevitable.

The almas is such a beutiful tower! A bit more varied height on the others would've been good, but still - JLT looks awesome and will keep getting better

I second that. Totally Agree with you
Lets just hope that the redesigned Al Burj can match that of the Burj Dubai and become another icon for Dubai City
