This is the first time i heard about the broken crane. Has someone died? Or was someone injured? Hope not!

I remember a crane breakdown due to an earthquake on March, the 30th 2002 at the Taipei 101 site, when that to-be world's tallest was almost halfway up. The entire upper part of one crane crushed down from 200 meters and hit a car; at least five people died then: Crane collapsing in Taipei

Hopefully there are no casualties this time!?!
Will there be a delay now? If so, I wish this won't be too long, so we can see Almas Tower soon in full cladding and with the spire.

The recent photo by Imre also seems to carry some depressing mood... Jumeira covered in fog, not only the common dust...

Just a thought...but everything always seems nicer when it's new...
This is exactly what I've always thought, though I don't see it as bad. It would be something like the way NY is seen, with primarily 20's 15 story buildings, but in Dubai's case, late 00's 30 story residential towers.

Its a miracle noone was hurt. I wonder if it occured suddenly or whether there were warning signs prior to its failure. I think there may have been time to clear the area, as with the amount of workers at Dubai construction, its likely it would have fallen on someone otherwise.

I suppose 1 of 2 things could happen now. Either the broken boom will be replaced using the second crane or it will be removed completely. It will be interesting to see which one of these options they pursue and whether the broken crane was considered the primary one.
