This shouldn't be possible, it burns like a torch. What is the facade made of? Hope Dubai will learn its lessons from this kind of events for future material use...

The title of this thread says T/O so I presume this tower isn't occupied yet? I'm getting conflicting reports on the news regarding it's status.

The fireworks are set to start at 12:00am. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual cause of the fire were from something as small as a cigarette butt. There are just too many skyscrapers in Dubai containing cheap flammable cladding. I hope proper regulation is put in place to stop developers from using this cheap stuff.. It only results in casualties and eye sores.

This isn't the first skyscraper fire in Dubai, is it? I think I remember at least one other in the previous years

I'm pretty sure Dubai will overcome this. Nevertheless there's still doubts that Dubai should go on with the New Year's fireworks spectacle, which is probably the greatest in the world. If they carry on with this, we should be hoping that there is no risk regarding the safety of the people, and that Dubai's priority is the people. Let's trust that there is no threat regarding the people, and that Dubai knows the cause of the fire. If Dubai authorities don't know, then it would be irresponsible to carry on with the event, in the magnitude they planned. They should probably carry on with a plan b fireworks spectacle. That would be the most reasonable thing for Dubai's reputation as a safe tourist destination.

Even this year - or for some now, last year. Earlier in 2015 a fire broke out in Dubai's The Torch, a major supertall in the city.

Now hopefully cz this luxury hotel suffered from the worst fire ever in Dubai, the gov will start making major fire upgrading for all towers built in Dubai! Plus Emaar needs to start fixing this tower tomorrow!!! Unless they want tourists to have a barbecued background in all their photos

I just saw the Burj Khalifa fireworks show live on TV and it was nothing short of spectacular !
Happy New Years to Dubai despite this tragedy !
