The Address is the hotel chain owning and operating the tower, so don't hold your breath on it.

Not even the image, is about money. Is one thing for a developer to run out of money, and the construction to be on hold, another to have the money for repairs after an accident from insurance companies. (unless they where really irresponsible and not pay the insurance )

All I can think of is that I was visiting this building back in September. Granted my dress code didn't allow me up to Neo's and my camera gear was "too professional" so I and my vacation associate left the premises. But I've always been impressed by this building. It's tragic that this had to happen so close to New Years and in such a prominent spot near the Khalifa as well. I would hope Emaar would redouble efforts to fix the tower and as was said, help propose stronger fire measures in any building in the city / emirate.

I'm guessing whomever contracted that cladding is now losing jobs. Or they had better be fixing their problem, that's for sure.

Of course, it's good that as far as I am aware there were no deaths, only relatively minor injuries. Sorry to likewise be off topic regarding this vs Address Downtown but I'll put my old shots up here eventually once I get around to editing my skydeck shots.

It'll be interesting to see what the investigation turns up.

It's worth noting that the main purpose of fire codes is to protect lives first and building fabric second, so whilst it all looked very dramatic, the building's defences arguably did their job (I'm presuming internal sprinklers, adequate alarms and escape stairs, coupled with proper facilities to get firefighters to the fire to fight it etc)

Looking at the photos I wonder what it was that burned. Possibly insulation behind the solid panels which are often missing? The aluminium frame of the curtain walking seems mainly intact. Clearly there are lots of broken glass panels but that's not surprising.

So no doubt there will be lessons to be learned, possibly about the quality of some of the cladding components, but not as catastrophic as it undoubtedly looked.

They couldn't cancel the fireworks show because the crowds leaving would have blocked rescue vehicles

Great job from the firefighters. Thanks to them.
Having said that, the building is completely destroyed; apart maybe from the core structure.
That's the risk when you build with cheap materials, when minimum safety measures are not met. The fire a The Torch was not an isolated incident.

Investors will now think twice before pouring their money into crap developments.

And down the SZR, at the Torch, salesmen tried to rekindle interest in apartments. They were going like hotcakes.

(P.S. Does anyone know the significance of the peace sign with the hand, with the thumb also outstretched?)

I suspect that the address will be repaired somewhat soon, because it really is an eyesore to downtown Dubai and the developers at maar know that. Anyhow I hope the Address Blvd is more fire resistant than the Address Downtown because its really nice. I like the BLVD much better than the downtown tower, and I can't wait to see it completed.
