I kind of like the design, it's diffrent from other Dubai towers which are thin and tall. I also like the fact that it's not on Sheik Zayed Road

I dont understand why it stands diagonally against the other buildings. I know the street grid changes at the site, but the tower should in my mind follow the direction of the adjacent buildings. Otherwise I really dig this building.

Designed by Norman Foster, so of course it looks nice.
As far as the orientation goes, I think that differentiates the tower from other buildings. It will become the most noticeable building in that area and totally steal attention from Rose Rotana !

Indeed, but as you can see in that picture there's another building behind The Index and Rose Rotana that will totally steal attention from both (or should I say all) of them.

Btw... are there any renders with that area's future skyline(all towers from SZR and DIFC)?

There is no road grid at the site. The service traffic will run underground and what seams like the road, is actually the roof of the underground tunnel.

Went to the architects weg page and found this info about the orientation of the tower.

The tower is orientated east - west to maximise views over the Finance Centre and to the coastline and desert. This orientation also reduces solar gain, with the building core mass absorbing heat to reduce mechanical ventilation loads. A system of sunshades shelters the interiors on the exposed south elevation.

Yes, thanks N.I.C.E.. Cool info.

It's possibly been noticed before, but this is the same idea especially construction- & form-wise as Foster's other project happening in Madrid: Torre Respol. Except this is a much larger version.
