I've been looking at this project since the start, constantly thinking "It will look fantastic when they clad it".... it's suddenly dawned on me that they have already clad it, how incredibly dissapointing. I know a lot of people on this site are holding back from their true opinions, but let's be honest, it looks hideous!

What an incredibly dissapointing realisation of a glorious design.

When is this tower expected to be finished?

How come the slick glassy building in the renderings turned out to be this concrete monster??

The glass part of the building is the SAME as in the renders. Only the colour of the stone tiles cladding changed.

amen to that. Maybe it will improve when the top is finsihed as well, but for now it remains to be a huge concrete monster.

We have to remember that the cladding and cap on the concrete sides are not finished, as well as the top facade and connection between residential and office floors... And there's still protective coating on some of the glass which makes the building look messy in it's current state.

I've seen people over the years rip buildings apart while under construction and then once the building is finally finished they can't stop gushing about it.

I'm going to reserve my opinion for when this beast is finished. Foster is great at proportions and finishes. I think that once this building is completed it will look beautiful.

I have to agree with you.I am very dissapointed in the sandy coloured cladding that makes it look so unfinished. This was one of my favourite buildings in Dubai but now I'm not so sure. It looks like it's dying of thirst in the desert. But as someone else mentioned, let us wait and see the finished product. This is after all Foster, who I have much faith in.

I would have loved it if they could have covered the concrete with a more reflective surface like aluminum or silver segments or some other type of reflective material. It would have made The Index a lot more alive to look at. The current puzzle paneling seems to have been the cheaper and easier option to build.

Actually, are they going to paint it, or is this the end design, because on one of the renders the panels are white.

It's the final design AFAIK but dunno if the building will look better in white or any other colour. A mean the architect is Norman Foster not some young inexperienced architer who don't know how to use colours properly. This is not his first building and he surely have an idea how the building will look like. Maybe when finished will look better.

Impressive structure. Not sure if I would want to live in an apartment at the top though - a bit scary.
